Wow, New Zealand has election landslide today (Incumbent Jacinda Ardern) with only a measured 10% of vote in already! This sure sort of makes you convinced of heavy fake news polling.. https://www.news.com.au/finance/work/leaders/new-zealand-election-2020-results-as-jacinda-ardern-aims-for-second-term-as-prime-minister/live-coverage/b89dc60841c8a13a042c6daa00457e1d

The tourist season will be starting soon. If she held the election in a few months from now, it would be a different story. The Asian, American and European tourists and students they so depend on in rural areas and college towns are not going to be allowed in.... Then it will be bye bye Jacinda.

Fingers crossed that she actually does something to stop small businesses going bankrupt.

Yes. No one here has understood yet what the impact of the loss of the small businesses will do to us in the long run.

I hope Jacinda gets that. Only been to New Zealand--North Island-- once a long time ago, but it felt like the last Eden to me. Hate the Mormon impact on the Maori. Hope that is waning.

Whattaya gonna do? We have the same problem here in North Disneyland...

Should one be a Humanist, such that no price is too high to pay to save lives, or a Realist, such that no amount of deaths is to high a price to save businesses?

Extremists on both sides would gladly kill you to get you to agree.

If only Einstein were alive to roll the dice!

They must appreciate not having to wear masks, or socially distance. They must relish life as normal. They have just nine cases recently, which they seem to be on top of, after months of being virus-free. That is no small achievement, even for an island country.

Arden does have some difficult decisions ahead of her, but I have to think that her fellow citizens appreciate what she's accomplished thus far.

And the seat count is:

Labour Party, 64;
National Party (conservative), 35;
Green Party, 10;
ACT New Zealand (libertarian), 10;
Maori Party, 1.

This is the first time a single party has held a majority since proportional representation was introduced 24 years ago. Labour will not need to form a coalition government.

She's done a great job as national leader whether dealing with anti-Muslim terror or the pandemic. Other countries should be so fortunate.

Jacinda Ardern puppet appears as Mary Poppins fighting Covid-19 on UK satire Spitting Image
13:48, Oct 05 2020

Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern has appeared as Mary Poppins in an episode of UK puppet satire Spitting Image.

The caricature puppet version of Ardern was part of a sketch that mocked the New Zealand approach to fighting the Covid-19 pandemic.

When asked about the skit with an unflattering puppet at a press conference, Ardern chuckled. “I am familiar with the show,” she said.

“I’m glad I whipped Neve away from watching it near the end there,” Ardern said.

“I was surprised by the emphasis on the Ginger Crunch,” she added, a reference to the iconic New Zealand cake that got a mention in the skit.

In the sketch, two people are sat outside a cafe, praising the freedoms currently experienced by New Zealanders compared to the rest of the world.

"What a fantastic day in New Zealand - meat pies, a ginger crunch and a positive balance of trade with China,” one says, before another replies “I know, but sometimes I think things here could be more fantastic.”

Then, appearing across Auckland’s skyline and flying past the Sky Tower, is a Mary Poppins-like figure.

As the figure lands in front of the cafe, the Ardern-puppet says “Kia ora, children. What healthful weather we are having. Not a spit-spot of virus to be seen."

"Why Jacinda Ardern, are you boasting?" a sheep attached to her umbrella asks.

"Practically perfect people never boast," the puppet Ardern replies, before adding "We just get re-elected forever.”

Then the sketch turns into a song, riffing on the famous Mary Poppins’ tune Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious entitled “Super-Kiwi-socialistic-empire-of-Jacinda.

"In a world of strong men a nice lady came along, I'm kind and young and kind and smart, and good and kind and young," the song begins

"When I became New Zealand's boss I knew just what to do, initiate a nanny state and turn our grey skies blue."

The party is spoiled by the entrance of a man who coughs, catching the attention of the Prime Minister.

"Do you know how hard it is to quarantine a country of two small islands with low population and a wealth of natural resources that renders us completely self-sufficient?" Ardern asks the visitor, before taking out a sword and chopping his head off.

"I am delighted to announce no new cases of coronavirus," the Prime Minister declares as the man's head drops to the ground and the dancing continues.

I wish her the best in a difficult job, especially one in dealing with so many different opinions, to be honest I'd be in the opposition to her party. This statement from the article is hard to take, at least for me.

"To protect our environment and address our climate challenges. To take on poverty and inequality. To turn all of the uncertainty and hard times into cause for hope and optimism."

Government job is suppose to protect property rights, protect the ones who own capital (the rich), it's not to get rid of inequality. I think her goals maybe too hard to solve. But we'll see how she does?

Seriously? You think the role of government is to protect property and defending rich assholes over ensuring equality for all citizens? Jesus wept. This is deplorable even for you.

Here's a link to resources that might help you learn how wrong your post is. I tried to find ones that fit your reading and comprehension level.

No, it's not deplorable for him. He can be far, far worse.

Please don't say that, Lot's. I think he'd take that as a challenge.

My TBM brother called me and out of nowhere during the conversation starting going on and on about her being re-elected in a landslide and what a good job she was doing. Maybe he doesn't realize she's an ex-mo, or maybe he's praising her thinking she'll "come back." Or maybe he's got a creaking shelf?

She's a winner.

You don't win elections, by a landslide, for nothing.

And the LABOUR Party!

The United States of America should have a labor party. But, that wouldn't work. Because the people wouldn't.
