PS: I'm sad though as I'm fairly desperate to see my sister who lives in MN. I keep asking her to find a way to get up here but the deadlines keep extending and the obstacles increasing.
Harry and Meghan wouldn’t have been able to stay in Canada longer than their visitor’s visas allowed - generally 6 months. Moving to the US made sense given that Meghan’s citizenship allows for Harry to reside there as her spouse. Not that where they live matters much in the grand scheme of things...
In some circles being married to the popular son of (the late) Diana, Princess of Wales and Prince Charles, Monarch in Waiting, tends to boost one's "status" also.
It could be as simple as wanting to be close to her mom. As well, perhaps, as putting some distance between themselves and the UK to do their own thing more. The expectations of UK monarchy tend to crimp one's style a tad. Maybe they just want a bit more of a regular life.
Hopefully they can get away from unwarranted criticism and privacy incursions. They don't deserve to be constantly criticized, attacked or spied upon any more than the rest of us.
We are all at the mercy of the circumstances of our birth, to begin with anyway, and to some extent all of our lives (some more than others - case in point). Hopefully, we get opportunities to branch out at some point and make our own way. I think that is all they are asking for. And less sniping, if that isn't too much to ask.

I would like to see them take an even lower profile than they already have, but I suppose that would open them up to criticism as well. If Megan wants to go back to acting, fine.
I'm still curious as to what drove them away from royal life, because Harry seemed to enjoy it previously, and was rather good at it, too. I liked his work with the Invictus Games. I was disappointed when they decided not to carry on with royal duties.
Being the spouse of an American does not automatically give Harry a resident visa that enables him to work is the US (however you define what he does as work). He will still be required to apply for one though as a spouse of a citizen it will be more or less automatic. But then perhaps there are different rules for elites.
This COVID-19 thing never seems to die down. We finally moved a couple of hours from the Canadian border ( Quebec) and we're looking forward to going there a lot. We used to see Quebec license plates all the time here, not any more, just the occasional semi truck with multiple plates. One thing we thought we'd see in NH/ VT is Canadian coke. I dont like regular coke. It has a chemical like taste. They have Mexican coke here though, which doesn't make sense.
My erudite better half learned somewhere on the internet that they're gradually changing Coke to the "New Coke" formula that was a disaster in 1992. Their marketing people think the New Coke formula is the way to go, just that they introduced it abruptly and it fell flat, pun intended.
I don't know and I don't care. The are occasions I drink soda, it's Dr. Pepper.
I remember back in the 90's and "aughts" seeing signs in convenience stores around exam time, "Yes! We have Jolt Cola!" It would be cleaned out in no time.
Now, of course, it's all energy drinks. Sometimes with vodka!
My son said they bought, and consumed, Red Bull by the case at the Basic School in Quantico.
