Yep. Saw him a bunch. He and Buffet were roommates at one time. Jimmy went Beach, JJW went outlaw country. Had a few beers with him at Gilley's and in Luckenbach. Redneck Mother and Pissin' in the Wind were staples in college.
According to an NPR story on J.J. Walker's passing, "Mr. Bojangles" was inspired by a homeless man the singer/songwriter met while spending the night in a drunk tank. And, for those wondering, the song has nothing to do with the 1940s/1950s black actor, Bill "Bojangles" Robinson.
Yep. Got wasted at Gilley's too. Did about 4 songs then they walked him around the parking lot to get some fresh air. He threw up in my trunk. I had a 1978 T-Bird and it was a few months after I got it in October, so it must've been 1979 as well.
