Having a living, breathing, revelation-receiving mouthpiece for God is a big differentiating claim of Mormonism, right? A Prophet® would be especially useful in stressful, confusing times like today. So, The Church® should be drawing in swarms of converts. Come one, come all, get your certainty and divine comfort right here in the One True Church®!

But nah. Looks like most folks are satisfied with the wisdom of long-dead people — or living people who don’t claim to be prophets. Maybe investigators are disappointed when they ask what great things the Living Prophet® has revealed.

Now that you no longer Follow the Prophet™, do you have some other source of wisdom, guidance and comfort? Or do you lean upon your own understanding?

“Living” is a matter of opinion.

Prophet or Profit?

When was the Last Time a 'prophet'/ president of ChurchCo uttered the timeless phrase "Thus Saith the Lord" as is indicated in their speech "Profiles of A Prophet"?

When I was a mish, 'gators would ask: "Well, what has your prophet said?" the Best we could come up with...
a) (someone for him) he writes in the church magazine EVERY MONTH!
b) he directs the location / placement of temples. No word about insightful prophecies or even extraordinary discretion/discernment as to everyday issues or matters of concern.

Today's crew has been seriously downgraded without any reduction of pay or benefits, I'm guessing; they're more like administrators than managers!!

The term Eric Hoffer uses in The True Believers is "caretakers." The original charismatic leader is followed by the institutionalizer and eventually the caretakers of the institution.

Yes.

Lenin the visionary was followed by Stalin the murderous organizer and then a serious of faceless bureaucrats.

Meanwhile Joseph the charismatic charlatan was followed by Brigham the bureaucratic mastermind and then a long series of increasingly senescent dolts. I wouldn't call them "caretakers" per se since some of them needed someone to change his diapers, but they certainly weren't, and aren't, prophets or leaders.

A prophet should be able to get advice from MORmON Jesus who (supposedly) created the universe and knows everything and is infinitely smart.

Instead of tapping MORmON Jesus for tips on how to market the MORmON church, LDS Inc hired a well known Jewish PR firm.

"MORmONS hiring Jews (who do not believe in a divine Jesus) to help spread the word (of a divine Jesus) ????" -makes sense to MORmONS !!!!!! .....It is also another GAME OVER admission moment for anyone who is paying attention and who is in touch with reality. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M7BR3QTZXSI

IF the Book of MORmON scam church was 1 per cent as great as it claims to be, nothing could be done to stop everyone from joining the MORmON believers club cult.

Next time you hear someone say that ask what his last few Prophecies have been.

They are not dead. They just smell that way.

In that job, brain death is actually an asset.

Other sources of wisdom, guidance, and comfort:

The Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle.

Untethered Soul by Michael Singer.

Loving What Is by Byron Katie.

When Things Fall Apart by Pema Chodron.

Each one has more wisdom in a single sentence than can be found in the entire Book of Mormon.

If reading isn't your thing, free youTube videos are available for all of these authors. If you're suffering, I can't recommend these works highly enough.

Good recommendations.

I'm batting 3 for 4
And 1 is on the list

True: each listed work is 10 times wiser than the Book Which Helps No One, even the bomb (book of mormon bs).

I follow the Dalai Lama on Facebook. I don't watch the videos, but instead read his written words of advice which focus on cultivating empathy or "warm heartedness" for others, and promoting peace of mind.

I look for simple, useful advice to get me through each day. Dorothy, your book suggestions look good to me.

My "understanding" is I am that source of wisdom, guidance, ...

My voice of reason

The Still Large Voice

Not so Small after all

He is no longer a prophet.

He is a global faith leader.
