Talking with my granddaughter today about her disappointment with no school plays this year.

She asked me if I was ever in a play. All I could think of was road shows.

I played the conscious of a villain.
The angel Moroni.
And....little bunny foofoo.

Anyone else have memorable roles?

I never had the pleasure because road shows and dance festivals were purged from church programs through correlation when I was a youth.

I played the lead role of E.T. in my ward's Sci-Fi themed roadshow. My big solo was "There's No Place Like Home" to the tune of "Eye of the Tiger."

I also portrayed a Jack-In-The-Box, Bluebeard the Pirate, a Nephite warrior and Joseph Smith HIMSELF over the years.

As a gay kid in the church in the 80s, road shows helped save my sanity.

I played a villain in a melodrama. Sprayed my hair black as I was as blonde as you get and the color only came half way out. I had blue hair before it was fashionable.

We did it twice. The first time I accidently said the word sperm in place of spurn. People laughed. Mormons did that back then.

The second time we forgot some lines and got lost and never got back on track. Which made it more fun in the end.

Roadshows, hayrides, learning to dance at MIA. Those were the days.

If you had spent any time in Relief Society, you would know that blue hair has always been fashionable.

Blue and sperm, that's a whale of a tale.

I played an elf in a Christmas pageant and I remember an older boy wearing his tights without underwear. I thought that was cool and terrifying at the same time.

I danced a solo to 'Teddy Bears Picnic' probably age 6.

I watched road shows as a kid but never took part in them.

In middle school, I played Tom Sawyer and Capt. Kirk in school plays.
