I’m thankful that I can give thanks without being told to. Seems more genuine that way.

Now shut up and pass the turkey.

If you don't "give thanks" are you a bad person ?

No. I don't really give thanks, but I am a bad person for other reasons. And I never say grace or wait for someone else to do it. Why waste time when there's food on the table. Last thanksgiving I ate everything in reach with such fury that when it was over one of my grandchildren was missing.

“I ate everything in reach with such fury that when it was over one of my grandchildren was missing.”

This is why many families seat the younger children at a separate table.

Hey! It was the kid's own fault for spilling gravy on himself.

Finally. I'm laughing. Thanks. (Real thanks, not the Mormon kind.)

Not having Thanksgiving this year, but Misgiving instead. This is still 2020.

If they can't already tell, then nobody needs to know what I'm thankful for--or thinking. Words often ruin everything.

The myth is wrong
it's all a lie
Pilgrims, Indians
And pumpkin pie.

The Lamanites brought kosher popcorn from Jerusalem.

Are you sure? There are a dozen posts on the subject (thanks*mis*giving) and you had to go start one yourself. Who told you to?

I give thanks to you for setting me straight. Who told you to do that?

Yeah, it doesn't seem sincere when you're doing it because you've been told to.
And/or just copying others.
Keeping up with the Mormoneses...

My dear Brothers and Sisters, as I sit here on my bench today listening to you, I felt prompted to come up to the microphone and express my gratitude to you for something I have come to cherish more and more every day. From the very depths of my soul, I am oh-so grateful for my Kohler toilet. I don't know what I would do without it. Whenever I feel the need to "vent", Kohler is there. Sometimes I just need to sit and think, Kohler is there. My Kohler isn't pretty, but to me, /wipes-a-tear, I love my toilet. I /starts-to-cry, say these things in the name of our beloved Father up above, Amen.

I give thanks as well, but try not to do it the way everyone on FB has been recently, which is bordering more on bragging because they are thankful for things other people don't have. Thankfulness seems to be associated with having more than others. So I'm not sure how not to contribute to someone feeling bad when they have less?

And why all the thanks all the time? To God? God isn't the one who bought the groceries and cooked the dinner. Are you thanking God all the time because you think he's under appreciated and needy? Glory to God! Glory to God! How much glory does a deity need? You want to give him a swelled head? He's God almighty after all, not Donald Trump. Sounds like a lot of posing, showing off and virtue signaling. If he really is so desperate for eternal praise, he's got a bigger problem.

Something to think about.

I’m thankful that the church is such a lying POS. It really opened my eyes to the irrationality and the effects of institutional dogmas.

The lying wasn’t intentional, they honestly believe all of that crazy sh*t. Most institutions are like that to some degree. There’s buy-in and then protection of the narrative. Mormonism is just a small player. There are much larger institutions such as political parties and mega corporations.

If my Mormon life hadn’t imploded, where would I be?
