What year did this happen?

Judging from the typeface (since the date is not included in the photo of the newsclip), I would say somewhere in the late 1800s to maybe 1920s or so.

Are you saying that "shooting down" someone who refuses to wear a mask during a pandemic is acceptable or is not acceptable?

The message you are attempting to communicate is ambiguous.

I think he is showing that 1) cultural wars over masks are not new, and 2) the supreme court and other authorities permitted local governments to require them. The United States has always allowed emergency measures during emergencies--until now.

But no, I don't read DtA as advocating violence.

In those days non-mask wearers were not tolerated.

As someone who is severely "compromised" healthwise, I wish there were a firm Federal mandate to wear masks (not just State-level "encouragement") but I know it would not fly. There are too many "It's all about me" covidiots out there who would not comply.

DH and I would not survive COVID, nor would my son who is on dialysis. But my grandma, who passed on the kidney disease that my son and I both have, managed to live through the 1918 flu, so we are doing our best also.

So the horses had to go shoeless.
