I thought this was the Rode Through the Desert on a Horse with No Name song.

Doesn't matter. When you're driving across the country, you will hear both songs about five times, per day, on the radio.

I used to enjoy Dan's early work. For whatever reason, I always pictured this song taking place in Boulder, Colorado, since Dan lived in the nearby mountains for quite some time.

His third wife wrote an interesting, but rather meandering memoir of their time together that goes into the background of a number of his songs. You can find it at danfogelberg.com. I especially liked the parts about his ranch in the San Juan mountains, his 2nd home on Deer Isle, Maine, and their travels in Europe. The memoir is not always flattering to Dan, although I don't think his widow intended it to come off that way. She comes off as a "go along to get along" type, and I think that's what he needed.

Nice song. And yeah, I sometimes have a sense of wistfulness for the beautiful, blond young man I left behind in Boulder. It was never meant to be, but it took me a very long time to come to terms with that.

The memoir is ongoing. She usually posts a new chapter every Saturday. I have been enjoying it immensely!

Yes, I've kept up with it as well. For the most part, I've enjoyed it.

The 10-year high school reunion: things have changed, but most of them were expected and the conversations are basically pretty stilted.

The 20-year high school reunion: things have changed, and for the most part, for the participants, they were unexpected and fairly startling.

Or is my view not the norm?


And for those who had them, did you go to both the 10th & the 20th? I got word of the 50th, but had no interest, so didn't even consider attending. I wonder if they'll be an attempt to stage a 60th, next year? I'd go, to be eye candy, but that would be needlessly cruel...

And I love the song. I did have a dream come true in my life about an old love.
