A few years ago I raised a fund that I used to help folks who were desperate. I spent 80% of the funds directly to those in need. what is the consensus here? Should I start doing that again?
My input is to give it all to charity and not keep any. I'm a musician and often perfom and get paid, sometimes quite well. I give it all away to good causes.
It varies Lucy. I played 80's new wave and rock in the early 80s, played in an oldies/ classic rock band in the late 80s at BYU, wrote/ performed original grunge rock in the mid 90s, wrote and recorded an album of rock in the early 2000s at home, studied and performed east indian classical on sitar in the 2006 - 2009 range, switched to writing/ performing original acoustic folk/ Americana in 2010, currently looking at joining another oldies/ classic rock band so I can get back to electric guitar and lead vocals, and I'm still writing/ performing/ recording my original acoustic songs and beginning to add in electric guitar too.
Have a new song that just popped out a couple days ago, this and the last one I wrote have a british/ Mersey beat sound to them, also have originals in a jazz style, Latin (sung in spanish), blues, etc.
In the oldies/ classic rock band at BYU, we actually got signed, went to California to Lucas Film studios and recorded an album of oldies along with 4 original songs. I was happy to have one of my songs on the album and one I cowrote with the other guitar player. Good times.
I'm all over the map....but not quit off the edge yet.
He could be. I looked up Kim Thayil's photos and he looks just like an old AP. The only inconsonant note is his insistence that Johnny the Smoke was only interested in barbeque and smoked meats. If he'd let my suspicions stand, I'd say definitely yes.
Now I say yes because I hope it is true.
And Beth, didn't you want to ride off into the sunset with Cornell? If I were Thayil, I'm not sure I would forgive such perfidy.
Can you give us a link where you’re playing jazz or blues. Especially if there’s some improvisation involved. Keep it anonymous if you want to. Please . . .

I also (pre-Covid) played paying gigs here and there. Didn't get paid that well, however. I ended up spending most of the $$ on gas money getting back and forth to said gigs.
Re: the fund- hope you can fund me. I like to have fun, funds or no funds. Maybe we could fund everybody... while we're having fun.
Destitute may be a more apropos term. Down on their luck. Poor. Broke. Penniless. Short of Funds. In Between Jobs, Checks, or Luck. Needing assistance...
How do you select whom to give to? And, how could this operation ever end. And, thanks for doing it. For being you.

Yeah but JS's LDSc BEGAN desperate... but TRUTH, MONEY, SEX, CONVERTS (but not necessarily in that order) and has only grown more desperate by the day.
That's what happens when you build your church on SHAKY ground. And the misLeaders aren't grounded (in faith, kindness, charity, truth, reality, and good deeds...). And the followers are DESPERATELY seeking the truth [the 'church' isn't willing to share], or ANYTHING!
