It was never properly explained to me why it was, in any way appropriate, for an elected leader, a presidential candidate, a person that was seen as god’s chosen one, to burn down a newspaper printing press. It was right for him to be sent to Jail. Unfortunately, some so called “frontier justice” took place and he became a martyr rather than what he really was, a criminal. What would have happened if he just went to prison? Where would this person’s movement be today?

True Believers have no problem explaining away JoJu's trampling on the Freedom of the Press. Even when you rub it in their faces that what William Law printed in the one and only edition of the Nauvoo Expositor was 100% accurate, they forgive him. Cuz, you know, ghawd!

As to what the church would be today had JoJu lived to a ripe old age...?

Ask 10 TBMs and 10 Exmos and get 30 different answers.

He's been peddling that for years if not decades. Please do not encourage him.

Gladys, you're trying to be a pain in the wooosh, aren't you?

Well, I go to my end asking the simple, heartfelt question, is there no help of the widow's son?

He wasn't a martyr and he was killed in a gunfight where he wounded three men 2 of whom later died(according to reports)
I feel no sympathy here

Just to be completely open, there are credible reports that the wounded all recovered.

Also, if it was just a gunfight, so was Custer's Last Stand ...

Joseph Smith, Jr. was never convicted of any crimes (other than the ones that he was convicted of), and a number of times his arrests for crimes did NOT result in a trial, as he was encouraged to escape so as to not create a martyr.

I don't feel anything with regard to how his life ended. Good riddance....

In my opinion, it is impossible to rationally sustain the notion that had JoJu lived, mormonism would have NOT have become the huge 0.02% influence on the world that it currently is. We simply don't know...

I prefer to imagine that it would have suffered the same fate as the Strangeite branch. I enjoy thinking that would have been its fate, but who knows?

And then what would my life have been like?

Too many complications!

You would in any case have been the revered seed of Manasseh, and Manasseh Nation will return, will return, will return, will return, will return!

That's in the Book of Mormon, doncha know.

By implication, you are saying that no matter what, I'm cursed, cursed, cursed?

Sure!

Who doesn't like a manageable curse?

No, no! You are blessed!

Synecdochical Cherokee nation will return, will return, will return, to overthrow the US government like the D&C says. It's just that in this case you lot let the white supremacists steal a march on you.

So get to work!

oh, heck!

I've been lying here on the sofa, absorbing the NFL for a game and a half, noodling around on my new Chromebook, and literally letting White Nation America steal a march on me!!!

I'll get up extra early tomorrow ...

That's more like it. Just remember: God's a fan of the Washington Football Team!

He went like a lamb to the slaughter. You never saw a pistol-packing lamb?

JS knew very early that whoever controls the media (in his case, the printing press) controls the narrative.

True then, true now.

I think there's a notable, provable distinction between now and then...

It's way too easy to find a 'news' outlet that will provide a viewer with what he/she wants to see and hear. The era of only one outlet is long gone, and pretty much so is the 'he said/she said' era of the two-newspaper town.

I sincerely sustain the position that whatever your perspective, you can find sustenance on los interwebz. Do you feel 'controlled'?

Anyone know how many Arrest Warrants were out on Joseph Smith during his career as MoronicPriesthood leader?

He ran from the law often. Nauvoo Charter even gave him protection from Law Enforcement.
