This guy is a total Walter Mitty.
I'm envious.

Reminds me of the Great Northern mini-train that used to be at Woodland Park Zoo in Seattle, it was close to a real - genuine retired GN switch engine.

the mini train could carry passengers, the steam engine was fenced off.

My dad retired from the GN, I worked there summers during my college years, it was great pay for semi-skilled work, but long hours / no possibility for scheduling dates, etc.

OMG, there's a name I never though I'd hear again anywhere, much less on RFM. I once had a construction job in Mahanoy City that helped put me through BYU. It is indeed at the south end of the anthracite coal fields of eastern PA, and anthracite is so hard it is very difficult to light, but it will burn a very long time.

That was a delightful blast from the past. Mahanoy City, between Frackville and Tamaqua and McAdoo (pronounced MACK-a-DO) Love the names back there.

I thought I'd seen and ridden some of the coolest live steam scale trains (and I got to operate the Fillmore & Western 1/1 scale 'Sespe' once, yay!), but check this out: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C48pU2_KePg

When I was a kid growing up in England it seemed most trains were pulled by a steam engine. Mostly what I remember was the cloud of smelly steam that bloomed up onto the road as one passed underneath and "grit" in the eye when I looked out the window to the front. Mr. Watt has a lot to answer for.

There is a mini-train like this in Wenatchee (WA) River Front Park. When I was a kid, it was in Saunders Pear Orchard in Peshastin, WA. We would take school trips out there in Grade School, and Mr. Saunders (who built it) would give us all a ride. I think you can still get rides at the new location.

Ok, I found a link. It is a bit bigger than that one:
