I'm at a local thrift shop and pick up a book titled "ENCWADINI KAMOMONI". Price 25 cents.

Yes it is a book of mormon.

Here is a part of 1st Nephi.

Mina, Nifayi, engangizalwe abazali abahle, ngokunjalo ngafundiswa ngandlele thize ngayoyonke imfundo kababa, futhi ngabona izinhlupheko eziningi ezinsukwini zami.

It gets more complicated from there.

Anyway. Anyone care to guess the language?

And I wonder how the intended readers feel about this phrase

ukuze zingayengwa nabantu bami iNkosi uNkulunkulu yabangela ukuba isikhumba sobumnyama size kubo.

There's a reason the book is available in thrift stores.

My first thought was that they’re worthless and don’t even belong in a thrift shop,
but then I remembered the recent toilet paper shortage... ;)

One of the great disappointments of my life was when I realized that publishers take the books they can't sell and "pulp" them because the cost of storing them is greater than their value. What an ignominious end to objects with such great intellectual and emotional worth.

Cry, the beloved book.

I'd vote for Zulu too, or something in that vicinity. Second choice - Klingon. :)

Guys, what do you think I meant when I asked Heartless "did zu loose your dictionary?"

There are times when I think you missed your calling as a straight man in a comedy routine!

I am in the slide rule crowd; still have it and can use it. And I got the drift of your comment zu loose.

I get annoyed with customer service reps who have to spell out, "A as in apple, B as in boy, C as in cat..."

Listen up! That's Alpha Bravo Charlie...

I really don't care do U ?

I will still understand what they are trying to say even if they are not using the real phonetic alphabet.

It bugs me too.

I was pulled over once and had receite the alphabet. I couldn't. I kept saying alpha, bravo, charlie.

Finally the cop let me go.

I'm late to the party, but I would have guessed Xhosa.

[Xhosa and Zulu are considered separate languages because they refer to different tribes (with somewhat different histories), but the content of each language is intelligible to members of the "other" tribe.]

Wait. You BOUGHT it?

They should have paid YOU to haul it away, no matter what language. ;-)

A small but growing section of my library has "exotic" language books.

The word is "erotic," not "exotic." We know you at least that well.

Gibberish

It's not a guess, but common knowledge.

If it's got Mormon in it, it is gibberish. Isn't it only printed in that language?

At least you bought a book, cheap, that 'ISN'T SUPPOSED TO BE SOLD'.

It is the most expensive - and offensive - book on earth.

Thank God it isn't in space.
There'sno room for it there.
It's an alien language.

Missionaries called to the planet Kronos might be a good comedy! (btw, I had to look up what planet the Klingons come from--I'm not a trekkie.)
