https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phil_Spector

Famous for producing countless Top-40 hits we Boomers know and love so well, notably the "Wall Of Sound" reverb. He also developed and managed the collection of extraordinary studio backup musicians nicknamed "The Wrecking Crew," and produced the Beatles album "Let It Be."

He married his star, Ronnie Spector

Yep, that guy. However as a music producer he was a genius.

Right. But he was a murderer. Michael Jackson was a pedophile. Roman Polanski drugged and raped adolescent girls.

I'm not in the "But their art!" club.

It's like giving serial killers a book deal and letting them keep the proceeds.

Speaking as someone who has spent some time in recording studios (on both sides of the console), I was not a fan of his production style.

Speaking as a human being, I was even less of a fan of him as a person.

How did he compare to Quincy?

IMO, it’s a bit of an apples to oranges comparison. Both are (or were) very successful, innovative producers, but they had different strengths. Jones is known primarily for his musical abilities-composing, arranging, etc., whereas Spector was know for innovative recording techniques and his “wall of sound” (essentially cramming as many musicians in the studio as possible to create a dense conglomerate of sound).

Both are (were) exceptional talents, I just don’t care for Spector’s style.
