..their otherwise armpit locations? First, it was the temple in Yuba City, California, now will be the Feather River California temple. Now the temple in Tooele will be the Deseret Peak Utah temple?

You're expecting rational if not predictable actions from ChurchCo?

Would U like to buy the Brooklyn Bridge? You might turn it into a toll bridge...

I guess it's because words like "Twinkie" sell better than "cake blob with chemical cream filling."

Sad but true.

What was that old joke (“joke”)? That Twinkies are so loaded with preservatives that kids can eat Twinkies that are older than they are!

I know, right? Is there even anything resembling food in a Twinkie at all?

Mormons tend to love things with names that sound like diabetes. Giving the temples cutesy pie names is marketing to the big 15's key demographic.

And I lived in Tooele. Calling it an armpit location is an understatement.

They're livin' in their sci-fi wonderland pickin' sugarplums. No different from Trek nerds fittin' over the planet gleepglorp with the zeepzoop aliens. I think they like the fruity names cuz it fits their fruity religion. The armpit locations though, I dunno. Maybe they wanna pretend their Jews livin' in the crummy desert or something.

Yuba City is a hardscrabble zipcode. But Feather River sounds nice. With Mormon temple placement, it's always about land speculation. Always.

It’s almost a self-fulfilling prophecy. If you build it they will come. Land value in the area goes up, and TSCC will sell it to you.

Maybe because no one can pronounce Tooele? IMO it may be due to the community rejecting the prior location. The church doesn't want confusion in the approval process for the new site. It also might be an effort to glam it up a bit.

I thought I remembered a thread on this very subject (but without remembering the conclusion!) - and I was right:

https://www.exmormon.org/phorum/read.php?2,1200714,1201074#msg-1201074

According to Dave the Atheist (an opinion I respect ;-), it is : Too-willa.

Thanks Dave ;-)

Soft Machine: can confirm Dave got the pronunciation right.

Summer: I think the "glam it up" is the right answer. And I wouldn't be surprised if the locals were the reason the Tooele site was rejected; Dante Alighieri's depiction of Hell sounds downright pleasant compared to five minutes with Tooele locals.

Dante Alighieri versus Tooele? That may be the most literate, sardonic, hilarious simile ever to grace the pages of RfM.

I think I am in love.

I don't know whether to be flattered or tell you I'm not exaggerating about Tooele.

and you can't believe or can how many pronunciations there were for Tooele by the residents and doctors I typed. 2-le is how it usually came out.

They don't call Brigham City temple any cute name!!!! Why not?

Actually, the tabernacle in Brigham City is a lot prettier than the temple.

and the temple will be surrounded by the flood waters of the Feather River.

I grew up an hour away and remember the 1986 flooding of Marysville.

Here's a clip from the 1955 flood.

Thousands of residents of Yuba City, Sutter County, fled from their homes early today when two breaks in the Feather River levee flooded the town. With them also went thousands of residents of Marysville, Yuba County, who sought safety in Yuba City when Marysville’s 12,500 were ordered evacuated because of the dangerous high levels of the Yuba and Feather Rivers.

According to my TBM Mom, who lives much closer to the Marysville-Yuba City area than her assigned Sacramento temple, it will be a limited operation (invitation only type of temple) and not a general purpose type of church building.

This was announced during her stake conference.

Surprised?

Well, maybe this is a new trend. Just look at the temple being set up for the former Utah Hotel.

The answer is simple.

The names were divinely picked by the prophetess Wendy and her sister wife Sheri.

Not being able to give the "correct" name to things is a Mormon tradition.
Remember it too three tries with Jesus personally giving Joe the name to get it right for L-d$,inc.

Even with Jesus personally giving the name the leaders later "corrected" his English, adding a hyphen and lower case "d".

See - not even Jesus gets this stuff right.
