My uber tbm brother was lamenting today that under the new priesthood rules he'll never be ordained a high priest because that office is now reserved for leadership roles.

I knew about them stopping the ordination of older men to high priests but I'm unclear about something else.

Are temple workers high priests now or elders? I know they have priests doing baptisms for the dead, was wondering about the other workers.

Many years ago, a good friend of mine (who was about three years older than me) told me that he had just been ordained a high priest. I asked him what exactly was the criteria for moving from elder to high priest. He said that once you start to fall asleep consistently in Sacrament Meeting, they make you a high priest.

The last time I attended, the elders’ quorum and high priests’ group still met separately. Not only was I the oldest elder, but I knew for a fact that I was older that a couple of the quorum members fathers. Maybe I should have snored louder.

I'm an outsider now, but I'd be very surprised if males needed any office higher than "elder" for temple worker assignment. Women of course just need to be members in good standing, and I suppose beyond a certain age.

Is there a lower age limit for regular temple workers? Can someone in their thirties be one?

Any age. It’s a self-declared thing. I’d try signing up myself but they’d make me trim my beard.

Was one of the older Elders in an active Utah ward.
Did not let the teacher get away with the Baloney stuff.
Lessons given and when he went off - pointed questions were asked. When he stated outright lies - pointed questions were asked and sources requested.

Stuff like "vicious lies" of Nauvoo Expositor - so asked if any had read it. Of course no one had. Next Sunday - brought in copy and NO ONE would read it.

Stuff like that.

Wasn't long and High Priest ordination was made.

My Dad only became a high priest when called to the bishopric.
This was mid-1980s.

I'm also old enough to remember when there were 70s quorums at the local level.

He wasn't happy when they made him a high priest as he said the old guys were boring.

The girl who cuts my hair is about 35 and she has been a temple worker for several years. She told me they are using younger people now as they are nicer to those who attend the temple, unlike the old ladies.

What does this tell us about the effects of prolonged exposure to TSCC?

FDA or EPA or NIH or NIOSH needs to get their toxicology research arm(s) on it immediately! Or maybe FEMA! Or DHS! Somebody!

;-D

He may not be able to serve as a High Priest, but he could still be a high Priest. Has he considered that option?
