https://www.newscientist.com/article/2268520-earths-magnetic-field-flipping-linked-to-extinctions-42000-years-ago/?

"Earth's magnetic field flipping 42,000 years ago
linked to extinction of Neanderthals and Large Land Mammals.

The most recent reversal of Earth’s magnetic field may have been as recent as 42,000 years ago, according to a new analysis of fossilised tree rings. This flip of the magnetic poles would have been devastating, creating extreme weather and possibly leading to the extinction of large mammals and the Neanderthals.

Earth’s magnetic field extends into space and is most concentrated at the north and south poles. The magnetic poles wander and occasionally reverse around every 200,000 to 300,000 years, but we have little evidence on how this impacts our planet.

Alan Cooper at the South Australian Museum in Adelaide and his colleagues have now provided some answers. They came up with the most accurate date yet of Earth’s last magnetic field reversal called the Laschamp event, which they estimate occurred between 41,560 and 41,050 years ago and lasted less than 1000 years."

Didn't see that in any 'revelations'.

Being predictable relies more on the person being predicted than on the person who does the predicting.

This is about me predicting this:

“...you are soon going to be telling us about the poles 'flipping' and how horrible the effects were 42,000 years ago and how it's going to wreak havoc on us all again!! (I'd love it if you proved me wrong!)”

Don't sweat it, Big Cat, I'm just as predictable.

So I can’t post a quote from a scientific journal if you mention it first, without you crowing about it?
I never said it was horrible. It worked out well for us, not so well for the Neanderthals or Woolley Mammoths however.
And I don’t know that it will be horrible next time it happens, which it will.

That problematic magnetic-field flipping can be avoided with use of sticky notes on your fridge instead of magnets.

Leading scientist were all in a tizzy, trying to find some way to control women's hair, as they complained about what the wind would do to the complicated arrangements they would make.

A lot of brain power went into finding a solution.

But it was Kathleen "the Exmo" Blaart! (The Blaart!s always insisted on the inclusion of the "!") of Harbor City, Oklahoma who invented the bobby pin.

Thank you, Kathleen Blaart! !!

I'm not worried bc I know that gawd's profit will give me / us plenty of advance notice & inform us how we can adequately prepare for this;

then Armageddon, the seven seals, the Constitution will be saved & renewed, the cleansing of the earth by fire, then Christ will return to the Earth to rule & reign in righteousness!

Amen!

Seriously... Sheesh, looking at the sheer number of his threads, you'd think nobody else was using this forum.

13 out of 55 on the first page is not even 24%!

I was thinking the same thing.

(Sarcasm warning!)

Every day I come here to the "RFM S-Cat Stream of Consciousness Board" to find out what he has selected for us to discuss.

(/sarcasm)

Does he think none of us read other things? What if everyone started a thread about every darn article, podcast, etc. they notice while surfing the web?

I don't necessarily disagree with many of his views.

Remember that autistic guy from Idaho who used to start a bunch of threads about things he read and admin politely asked him to see if he could combine them all in one thread? Due to the volume of threads S-Cat starts, many of them redundant or an appeal to authority, I've wondered if S-Cat might be autistic or what. Sorry, S-cat, but something feels off about your starting so many threads.

Did you know that the admins have removed some of The Cat's threads?

Hard to tell, I know...

The other day, when his posts were lined up, 1 thru 9, out of the 55 on what I see as a first page, I was soooooo proud of him!!

It is likely that no one in recorded RfM history has ever achieved that goal. As to the future, well, he's a gamer...!!!

Yeah, well he had some help getting those nine threads on the page: evidently some Mad Topper who had been seasoning his food with mercury for too many years.

Gee-bus! You mean there were even more?

I noticed 10 on the 1st page one day this week which seemed excessive, then 13 the next day. I guess I wasn't the only one who noticed.

Half of them I only open to see if you and Lot's Wife have gussied up the place.

No, Jesus--although he sometimes prefers to spell it "Hey Zeus."

He says RfM repartee is the most fun you can have without needing to pay child support. I find those sentiments appalling, but we should probably overlook the faux pas if he consents to serve as Vice President for Belonging.

I read recently that the Earth's core is as hot as the surface of the sun, 6,000 Deg. Celsius.

Is it true that while the photosphere is at 6,000 Kelvins, the corona is at millions of degrees Kelvins?

If so, that's so weird... The interior of the sun is also up in the millions of degrees Kelvins. Then at the surface, the photosphere, it's down to your 6,000-degree figure, and then heats up to the millions again.

The exact process remains unknown, but the word on the street is "Buckyballs".

Wouldn't he say "bollocks!"?

That's what we say in Hertfordshire, in the Fall, when the geese depart.

Art thou perhaps a French interloper besotted by elderberries?
