If I'm reading it correctly, comparing notes accumulated through various Google searches:

1)  At the end of 2013, the church reported 15 million members.

2)  At the end of 2019, the church reported 16.5 million members.

3)  That's a 1.5 million number increase, over six years, or 250,000 per year, average, a 17% increase per year.

4)  Wikipedia tells me that the Earth's population increases 1.10% per year.


Is the math telling me that the percentage of the Earth's population that is 'registered' as being mormon is decreasing every year?


Right now, my share of the $100 Billion mormon rainy-thundery-Armaggedony-day fund is $6,250.

That would be Cool Whip on top of Jello cubes, an apt metaphor for Mormon number crushing (autocorrect error, but "crushing" may be better than what I meant to type!). Plus since Jello is involved, it is a high-protein meal.

10% of 15 million is 1.5 million. Mormons should be especially good at that particular calculation.

That happens to be an exact match to their reported growth over 6 years, so they grew 10% in 6 years.

To find out how much they grew in 1 year, divide by 6.

BTW, as with all of their general membership numbers, 1.7% is inflated. Their real growth is closer to 0.6% of their inflated 16 million membership number, give or take a bit, which is less than the rate of growth of the overall world population. So they are becoming a smaller percentage of the overall world population each year.

Unfortunately, that has no effect on calculation how much your share of the Mormon money pie would be if it were to liquidate and distribute all the money (though there is not even a snowball's chance in hell of that happening),

Their financial assets are almost certainly growing faster than 0.6% a year, so for those of you whose names have not been removed from The Book of Life™ (LDS Version), you're potential slice of the pie does get bigger every year.

OTOH, there is a Powerball drawing Saturday worth $238 million, and you can enter for only $2. The chance of winning is only 1 in about 200 million, but that's better than the odds the Q15 are going to cut you a check for your share of LDS Inc anytime in the future existence of the universe.
