Here's the headline:
LDS Church embraces the U.N., but some members see the global group as ‘satanic’.

Subhead: They view the organization not as a vehicle for bringing food, shelter and health care to those in need but rather as an evil force bent on world domination.

That gets right to the point. The program wants to distribute 2 billion shots worldwide by the end of the year. Between the LDS anti-vaxxers, the Sovereign Citizens, the juris naturalis types, and the "OMG, the Blue Helicopters are coming" crowd, lots of heads are exploding. The comments section is choice, and I imagine some of the real winners were deleted.

"In late February, the church gave $20 million to UNICEF for COVID-19 inoculations in a program aimed at distributing 2 billion vaccines by year’s end. At the faith’s General Conference in October, apostle D. Todd Christofferson even talked approvingly about the U.N.’s 2030 goals for “sustainable development.”

All these seem laudable goals, but not all church members are happy about the U.N. ties. Indeed, to many of them, the global body is a communist front, or worse, a symbol of the biblical Antichrist."

The article goes on to mention various UN programs the church has participated in, and the mentions of such programs at GC, and the GAs who have spoken at various UN events/conferences. There is more involvement than I would have guessed.

There was also mention of Ezra T and the Ezra T wannabes in Mormondom. I didn't see Ammon Budy's name. Pity. I take it back. I just did a search and Ammon does get a shout-out in the article.

It is a fairly long and detailed article. It is marked "for subscribers only", so I know this one is paywalled, but here's URL:

By default, Ammon Bundy is a church leader.

You are quite correct. The other one is LaWanda Sorenson of South Jordan.

That's a good thing. The Mormon church needs to do more charitable work that benefits all people, not just church members.

Agreed, they should be doing more of this obviously good thing. If they donated $20 million a week to causes, that would only be a billion dollars a year, which would only be a fraction of the annual growth of their $100 billion Ensign Peak fund. They wouldn't even have to dip into their principal, and would still have plenty of interest left over.

So, while this is a start, it is still almost a rounding error compared to their overall wealth.

The irony is with their Perpetual Education Fund.

https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/self-reliance/pef-perpetual-education-fund?lang=eng

They could do so much more just for their members and ones in 3rd world countries.

My eldest was a missionary in Central America. It was nice that many of her companions were living better than they ever had in their lives with her. They didn't want to leave their mission.

That would be amazing.

Better results and bigger headlines than all their entire missionary program since the dawn of its existence.

And they'd still have more money than when they started, according to your mathematical insights.

Win-Win for the church and the beneficiaries.

What $100 billion? What misappropriation of funds?

Concluding my investigation now. Don't forget to wear your mask.

$20 million is chump change to TSCC. They should be donating at least a billion.

Now that the world knows that the church has at least one hundred billion dollars in one fund alone, anyone who sues the church should charge accordingly in their demands for regular damages and punitive damages. So if you or your kid is molested by a trusted mormon youth leader, you don't sue the church for a million dollars any more, you sue for five hundred million dollars. Where more is given, more is expected. And any charity given by the church needs to be viewed as a percentage of that one hundred billion dollars. The church certainly doesn't pay ten-percent on its increase as charity. Given that they are supposed to be a charity, that's pretty sad.

Assuming a fund value of $120 billion and a 10% annual return, which is perhaps slightly high, $20 million represents a little more than half a day's income.

Half a day. That's how much the Church is contributing to COVID containment.

20 million out of 100 billion... that’s like 2¢ out of a hundred dollar bill.

“Here ya go UNICEF,” says Musty Rusty. “Don’t spend it all in one place.”

It's also only about $1.25 for each of their claimed members, or less than $4 for each active member.

What a paltry sum.

TSCC takes in 20 MILLION DOLLARS in just a few hours, probably less than half a day (4 hours or so) on average.

It should contribute 4 or 5,000,000,000 or MANY timesover what they pledged.

The mormon 'church' DEMANDS the MOST but offers the LEAST.

What a beast

They offer one the promise instead of a wish to see family after one is dead. They offer the service of a coven of old men deciding important things like meaning in life for one. They offer a local leader (possibly your dentist) to counsel one on all one's important thoughts and decisions. They offer a ready-made network of people vetting by "worthiness" interviews who don't drink, smoke, take too much caffeine, or use illicit drugs to hang around. They offer the promise of your kids finding someone to marry who will probably be more like you in their homogeny in being controlled by a corporation.

Rather than offers though, they are more like demands!

One can turn down a calling. Happens all the time. They don't get kicked out for it, just frowned upon.

Like 10¢ on the hundred dollar bill. Once. Not all the time.

Just to look good.

All for their name in the (deer) headlights.

Turning it down isn't the problem... The PROBLEM is getting them in the first place.

I was thinking (probably because the power was out) this am about mormon's word for, meaning of and understanding of mission. We are calling you, VS. You, listening [to yourself/ God/ Spirit/ Wisdom, etc.], CALLING YOURSELF, directing yourself, commanding yourself, listening to You, what You want, what you need).
