https://www.yahoo.com/news/indian-doctors-warn-against-cow-013634750.html

In the state of Gujarat in western India, some believers have been going to cow shelters once a week to cover their bodies in cow dung and urine in the hope it will boost their immunity against, or help them recover from, the coronavirus.

In Hinduism, the cow is a sacred symbol of life and the earth, and for centuries Hindus have used cow dung to clean their homes and for prayer rituals, believing it has therapeutic and antiseptic properties.

"We see ... even doctors come here. Their belief is that this therapy improves their immunity and they can go and tend to patients with no fear," said Gautam Manilal Borisa, an associate manager at a pharmaceuticals company, who said the practice helped him recover from COVID-19 last year.

As participants wait for the dung and urine mixture on their bodies to dry, they hug or honour the cows at the shelter, and practice yoga to boost energy levels. The packs are then washed off with milk or buttermilk.

"There is no concrete scientific evidence that cow dung or urine work to boost immunity against COVID-19, it is based entirely on belief," said Dr JA Jayalal, national president at the Indian Medical Association.

"There are also health risks involved in smearing or consuming these products - other diseases can spread from the animal to humans."

There are also concerns the practice could contribute to the spread of the virus as it involved people gathering in groups. Madhucharan Das, in charge of another cow shelter in Ahmedabad, said they were limiting the number of participants.

I wonder how the cows feel about being hugged by someone slathered in cow dung and urine? :-/

At least hydroxychloroquine is not messy.

I suppose this is one way to achieve herd immunity.

It's a kind of bovine intervention.

But it's udderly ridiculous.

Nothing to see here, just moooooooove along.

Naturally I'm going to milk this as much as possible.

Hmmmm. I'm wondering if that practice could exacerbate the risk of the secondary black fungus infection they have been reporting.

NBC reported: "As India grapples with a deadly second wave of coronavirus, authorities have warned of a rare fungal infection that can maim or even turn fatal if left uncared for.
Several media reports have said that doctors in the country are reporting cases of mucormycosis, informally known as “black fungus,” among recovering or recovered Covid-19 patients in states like Maharashtra and Gujarat as well as in Delhi."

That's fine if your lungs have not already been damaged by COVID. Once you are sick, it's probably not a swell idea to roll around in compost until you are better.

So it works the same way the Priesthood does. With the laying on of hands, sincere belief, and lots of cow sh*t.

How does one pronounce "sh*t"?

Wouldn't it be cool if * was a glottal stop?

Note to MoeHoward: you can get it in 50-pound bags at Home Depot. Just add water. Save yourself a trip to the countryside. It may not be "holy sh*t!" but it is sh*t.

Is there any difference between cow manure and bull sh*t? Or should I save that question for one of the cosmology threads?

India has to import wombat cubes but so does the US. At times it is elevated, the cubes can stack.

The United States spent a year trying to ward off COVID with cow dung, too. I guess that wasn't widely reported in the Indian media.

They might be onto something, phage therapy in combatting COVID, according to NIH

“ It appears that there are grounds to believe that phages may be included among drugs currently being studied for repurposing in the treatment of COVID-19. Based on the above data the most likely application of phages in COVID-19 could be in an adjunct antiviral therapy, similar to the current trend to combine phages with antibiotic therapy in bacterial infections. In addition, standard phage therapy could be considered for the treatment of bacterial complications of COVID-19, which occur in >40% of patients [12].

Phages may protect eukaryotic cells by competing with viral adsorption and viral penetration of cells, virus-mediated cell apoptosis as well as viral replication. Phages may also induce antiviral immunity while contributing to maintaining a balanced immune response. Moreover, by inhibiting activation of NF-κB and ROS production, phages can downregulate excessive inflammatory reactions relevant in pathology and clinical course of COVID-19.

The data presented in this Commentary are often preliminary but suggest that further studies focused on the potential of phage therapy as at least an adjunct treatment of COVID-19 are warranted.”

Phages are as happy in shit as pigs in shit.

But with these things triple mutating already, I don’t know which is smarter, the scientists or the brainless virus.
