Gold Records for mission performance?

Going through the old stuff left by a grandfather who has died.
He has a couple of GOLD RECORDS, like the Gold Records given to singers when they have big hit records.

These are for Missionary Performance of some sort. Label isn't readable any longer.

He was in Missouri, Oklahoma, Iowa, Nebraska, Arkansas, Kansas, Illinois during his mission. Sometime in the 1960's. Anyone know what the deal is with Gold Records from that time?

Maybe something about like getting a star for finding the gold plated records.

It's probably a numbers thing!

Give TMC (the mormon 'church') the gold and it'll give you a record?
