"Governor urges Utahns to ask God to end the drought, because that's how we solve problems now"

"Utah Gov. Spencer Cox (R) is asking residents to join him in a "weekend of prayer" for rain amid a statewide drought emergency."

I think the governor should pray for books on human-caused global warming.

Why, "thoughts & prayers" works so well. Put it on everything.

It's like Windex.

At least Windex is wet.

however inane these are at least (debatably) actions.
The recognition of an actual state of reality is truly remarkable.

Typical of these types is:

"Drought?
What drought?
Where?
Why, verily verily, there is an overabundance of rainfall."

this drought is a catastrophe waiting to mature, with the 'Saints' in the bullseye.

If God doesn't save 'his people' from a catastrophe...

What do they think god wants? A drought, or a ton of groveling?

If god doesn't really want a drought, but is sending them one just for some serious groveling, then god is a dick.

If he does want a drought, then god is still a dick. And all the groveling in the world won't change his mind.

But I guess they think that if enough of them grovel, god will change his mind.

But I thought the church's current position is that prayer isn't supposed to change the eternal god's mind, but to bring the groveler into harmony with god's will, which is to say that god will do whatever he wants anyway, so prayer isn't going to change anything.

So which is it, mormons?

In any event, god is a dick.

God is teaching a lesson / lessons:

- Not enough tithing

- Not enough Temples / temple attendance

- Failure(s) of missionaries

- Not enough babies which is a result of (young) people 'hanging out', staying / being single & happy..

more failures?

So far the prayers are not working. SLC had its earliest 100 degree day on record, Thursday. The 10 day forecast doesn't have a single "partly cloudy" icon.

The guv got some pushback on calling for prayer, as a government official. He defended his call. I was not much convinced. I'd quote his rebuttal statement, but I can't find it.

ETA: now there are 2 partly cloudy icons for this coming week. I guess the Sunday prayers have more powerful juju.

Fluctuations in weather are a phenomenon of nature.
They occur occasionally and have nothing to do with theology. Praying will not change natural flow. It just happens.
It is sometimes referred to as "life happening."
The being to whic we have attached the label "God"is not now nor, has he ever, going to interfere with the natural course of events!!!

Oh, yeah!? Well what about the crickets and seagulls?

And who do you think sent that once-in-a-lifetime tornado to SLC, that damaged (in order)
1) some gay bars
2) the Jazz arena, aka our sports temple
3) the Temple Square north visitor's center
4) the Conference Center, under construction at the time
5) City Creek Canyon, that crunchy granola environmentalist hiking spot
6) the Avenues, a place filled with Democrats.

Looks like the hand of God to me.

But what about those praying it won’t rain until they get their roof fixed?

Roofing is an abomination to the most high god bc it might interfere with receiving (not sending!) revelations / inspiration;

god works in mysterious ways, don't ya know?

Tough crowd when all you can do is laugh like Edward G. Robinson and ask, “Where is your God now?”.

Stop paying tithing until the rain falls.

(Two can play *that* game.)

It's like I told my last landlord: "I'll pay my rent when you turn the utilities back on. I don't care what your court orders say!"

Moronic, of course, but at least this politician actually believes climate change is a real thing. You can't say that about a lot of mental defectives currently in office.

I'm confident that if Cox, Mike Lee, Trump & Nelson get together (withou Romney, of course) they'll either Claim Victory or blame it on a minority group ... (not Scandinavians, of course)

Wait.....

We're praying for rain instead of moisture?

Another light pen change?

Ammon Bundy seems to think he is pretty dialed in to God. What’s he doing to fix things? His dad’s ranch has to be pretty dry by now.

...I think I saw in a recent Daily Kos piece that Mr. Bundy was heading out to Klamath Falls, Oregon, to rally the locals to take scarce water from a lake that is less than half full.

Now if only I could find the article...

I don't think they like freelancing intermediaries between God and the constituents.

"asking God or whatever higher power you believe in for more rain"

So if this succeeds which religious group gets credit? Worshippers of Satan may be praying too. Just sayin...

If there was a god, I imagine she would respond like my mom used to when I asked her to do something for me. "If I did it for you, you'd never learn how."

Maybe they can bring in Paula White. Paula's on record as hearing the sound of an abundance of rain, and even knows a magical incantation or two.

But they better be prepared to open up the coffers, because Paula's services don't come cheap.

Is there anything more insincere, and obsequiously pandering than a governmental leader who invokes religious nonsense? Frankly I like Gov. Cox. This was beneath him.

HH =)

I'm sure Cox wasn't expecting any rain when he asked the state of Utah to pray, he was just trying to divert any responsibility from himself and onto the people and God. Smart man.
