What kind of angels land there?

I thought that they were angels but to my surprise
We climbed aboard their starship and headed for the skies

I've done with my daughter when she was 13, about 7 years ago. It's just as scary as it looks. Doesn't look so bad when you start, but the further up, the scarier it gets. Don't know if I'd do it now. There's some parts, where you just want to say "screw this" and turn around. But there's people coming up behind you and you don't want to chicken out. Kinda like when you're 10 and climb up the High Dive at the pool. You really want to go back, but you know your peers will call you a chicken for a long time. So, you suck it up and go for it. The good thing is that the Park Service keeps the chains and anchors maintained so well. The only issue is if you keep looking down and get vertigo. Head up, eyes straight and a death grip on the chain.

...especially at thirteen. What a great father-daughter experience!

Thanks. She basically made me go. She took climbing lessons for 4 years previously. She was like a mountain goat. I basically just pretended that I wasn't scared in a few areas. Glad she didn't check my underwear.

Lots of people take climbing lessons, but hardly anyone takes falling lessons!

Unless you are a martial artist or a volleyball player.

Yep. My kid plays D-1 volleyball in college. The bruises she has after games looks like someone beat her in a back alley.

Note the absence of a chain or safety device. Mt. Katahdin is the tallest peak in Maine, and the northern terminus of the Appalachian Trail.

And yes, I've done it.

Edit: I wonder how much the Sherpas were paid for installing the chain. One thing which gets me is how smooth the stones have been polished by all that foot tracking. Even with the chain, that produced a cringe in me.
