I'm enjoying a salad topped with these.

https://www.amazon.com/Buds-Cricket-Power-Roasted-Crickets/dp/B07YNYZ4LF/

After reading a lot about consuming insects and bugs I spent too much money to buy these but I really like them on my salads.

I've had cricket tacos and mealworm chili as part of an Entomology class. The mealworm chili was actually pretty good.

I've eaten silkworm pupae as well. I threw up and had a mild breakout of hives, so not trying that again anytime soon.

For folks who wouldn't eat bugs, all I can say is: do NOT look up the FDA regulations on insect parts in ketchup!

Good thing we are omnivorous creatures.

I have too. The first time was in Oaxaca. Roasted and seasoned grasshoppers — chapulines. I've had them a few times since.

I ordered some hoppers and worms online last year. Not as spicy as chapulines but still good.

Very poor substitute for grated Parmigiano Reggiano.

On my mission I was offered aphid tacos (live) and fried caterpillar breakfast tacos.

I passed on both offers.

I absolutely would eat bugs.

Payback for all the times they have eaten me.

No. Would not eat bugs. Unless I was literally starving. Then everything is on the table.

If they were already dead, of course. Really, who wouldn’t?

I have to agree with CateS. I don't think I would choose to eat bugs or people. However, the urge to survive is strong with whatever options there are.

I do hope to change my mind about bugs. I'm sure I've eaten plenty of them in processed food. If I can eat shrimp, then bugs shouldn't seem that creepy.

Would you eat bugs in a box with a fox?

If I had a box with a fox and candy corn rocks, I would put socks on an ox and pretend I had the pox.

There’s not enough ranch dressing for bug eating.

Chocolate, flour of all types, all have regulated allowable bug and rodent fece content. We've been eating them all along.

I would NEVER do this myself (I am a vegetarian, pro-animal rights person--and pretty much "always" have been), but this is from Rabbi Doctor Natan Slifkin in Israel (who I greatly respect on all kinds of intellectual levels; I have learned a huge amount from this man's books), so:

EDITED TO ADD: Do NOT hit the "Continue" button which appears in the article--there is a warning that comes up on the supposed "Continuation" site.

If the first Utah Mormons had been bug eaters they would have seen the cricket swarm as free food, manna from heaven, instead of a plague.

I’ve eaten lots of bugs in Asia. Most aren’t bad.

Isn't a lobster just a big bug ?

Lobsters are arthropods, so same phylum.

Not even at gunpoint.

If, however, the gun-wielder was aiming at DH, or one of my children or grandchildren, I'd manage to gag it down somehow. Maybe wash it down with a shot of Glenfidditch.

I would eat a bug
From a rug
I would eat one from a tree
Bugs that squish
Are a special dish
And I eat them up with glee.

The ones that crunch
Go in my lunch
And the worms I swallow will wiggle
Some bite back
They're an exciting snack!
Some squirm and make me giggle.

I'd rather eat Kraft "cheese" slices and that really says something. Never thought I would prefer plastic over anything.

:D

I absolutely would prefer Kraft cheese slices over insects of ANY variety.

I will leave all of the kosher-approved insects to Natan Slifkin's culinary skills and personal appreciation.

I can catch you some

Maybe even convert the farm to harvest them.
Less for fishing but so what?

(I'll just buy fish with the money maid and time saved)

How do you like them roasted?

$800/ lb. - salad toppings for a year. What a deal!
Cheaper - and better for you - than croutons.

I would love to add bugs to my diet but they are cost prohibitive. If you could supply me with a cost effective means I would eternally grateful. Problem is how do I know you are supplying me with something editable, shipped correctly for the food not to spoil, and that I would like them without trying them first.

Aren't Lobsters the cockroaches of the ocean?

I recall from some years ago that ground earthworms are hamburger patty filler, makes them stick together. Can't vouch for the truth of that rumor.

When I was 14, our class was at Lagoon for an end of the school year fun trip.

I was on the roller coaster and as we were starting down the first hill, I opened my mouth to scream, and felt something hit the back of my throat. I pulled out a bee; the impact in my throat had flattened it!

Luckily, it didn't sting me; it happened so fast, it didn't get the chance to do so.

If it came down to a matter of survival, I would rather eat tree bark; of course, it probably has bug eggs in it.

Cheese mites in every slice of cheese. Yum! There's trace amounts of insect parts in all our food. So many parts per million of cockroach legs, fly wings, mouse hairs, etc....

My dad delivered a truckload of produce to a cannery in central California back in the '60s. Saw a snake swimming in a vat of tomato sauce.

Oh, I worked in the back of a small restaurant and our 100 lb. bags of raw potatoes had several pounds of cockroaches. When we got to the bottom of the bag, we'd up-end the bag onto the diswashing tray and hose hundreds of roaches down the garbage disposal.
