Last week the phenomenon of "soaking," a perceived loophole horny Mormons use to have sex without having sex, horrified the internet.

As this great piece by Mel explains, soaking is when someone inserts their penis into their partner's vagina without thrusting, “marinating” the penis in vaginal fluid without creating any friction.

In the tweet it's described as something done by Mormon teens, who are expected to remain virgins until marriage. The tweet suggests that the soaking loophole can be expanded to experience something that is even closer to the sensation of having vaginal sex without, theoretically, as the video suggests, loosing your virginity in the eyes of god or the church. It’s called "jump humping,” and it requires enlisting a friend to jump on the bed to create sex-like movement and friction without either sex partner actually moving.

This poster was describing a TikTok from an ex-Mormon which depicts the practice, "Some Mormon teens have convinced themselves that putting a penis in a vagina and then not moving is not sex. That’s called soaking. Jump humping is when you get someone to jump on the bed next to you soaking to get some friction going without you technically causing the movement"

As unlikely as it seems, the concept of jump humping predates this viral TikTok.. At around 8:30 into this video from Barstool Sports in 2019, a woman from the Mormon college Brigham Young University describes "jump humping," though she does not actually refer to it by that name.

Most people's initial reaction to this activity was either disgust or mockery. Others still refuse to believe that soaking is real, just like the apocryphal "rainbow parties" of yore."

While soaking and jump humping might be new and novel techniques to some, finding ways to have sex while convincing yourself that you’re not really having sex is nothing new. I have personally known teenage girls who insist that they are still virgins because they only have anal sex.

This is a VICE News article about "Jump Humping" which I had never heard of until today.

    The likelihood of "jump humping" ever having occurred at the request of a couple of mormon soakers is right up there with Joseph Smith practicing "soaking" so as to preserve his virginity.

    What's that you say, it's on the internet?! And also, it's horrific...?

In the New Testament, über-conservative Jews were described as having a hundred different ways of getting around their own laws, to be observant without observing. I think that that is common in all religions. Mormons really go for it. But on the one hand, "virtue" has only one meaning in Mormonism--the hymen. A girl "loses her virtue" (not a guy, you understand) when she loses her hymen, so "soaking" should represent a loss of a girl's "virtue," by Mormon standards.

It's just like Mormons' view of "modesty," not to be confused with one being modest in one's spending, in one's personal trappings, about one's abilities, etc. No, "modesty" in Mormonism is only what leaders interpret as something that one could consider even remotely as something that might--possibly--turn a guy on. Shoulders? Immodest. Tops of knees? Immodest. Midriff? Immodest. Cleavage? Maybe immodest, maybe not. A grown woman's cleavage? Just fine. A teenager's cleavage? Immodest.

Mormons are just Pharisees and Sadducees, sticklers for obeying arbitrary laws.

In the LA radio world, KFI mentioned soaking and jump-humping on their "news nuggets you need to know" segment, so now another million or so Southern Californians have heard about crazy Mormon stuff. :-)

There are all sorts of folks in various conservative religions who claim only penis-in-vagina counts as sex. So oral, anal, manual or whatever are okay.

I always thought it was interesting that Utah was the porn subscription capitol of America and the more 'conservative' an area is, the more porn subscriptions they're paying for.
I guess Mormons are so naïve they think they're morally obligated to pay for their porn.
