Just from glancing at summaries, I would say that some talks were grounded in kindness, and some talks were completely heartless and clueless. So, normal, I guess?
Fair warning, one of the apostles urged the faithful to annoy their less active neighbors and family members.
That's my situation as well. It's nice to reach the point where you don't care anymore.
But there's something else worth noting. You and I were clearly not alone; there was little mention of conference on this board beforehand. What that means is the RfM community, and the ex-Mormon community in general, are increasingly "over it."
That's partly us and our evolution but we are not alone. People in their teens and twenties are more estranged from the church than ever before. The problem therefore lies more with the church, which is growing ever less relevant to its members' lives and with society more generally.
I mean, think about it. The Q15 would view it as progress if they transformed Mormonism into an average Christian faith--and Christianity is in decline virtually everywhere. It's just that the leaks in the Christian boat are smaller than those in the Mormon craft. LDS policy now is just to slow the losses.
When your greatest enemies no longer pay attention, you are in deep trouble.
TBM'S are laser focused on those 2 confernz weekends every year and 7 billion other earthlings could not give a rusty f*** about it and that is just so satisfying.
My wife becomes more and more inactive with each successive week, though she still insists to her sister and friends from church that she is still active. She's only been to church twice this year, she has no callings, and has begged off any offer of a calling because of how busy she is.
Further evidence of her inactivity was this latest conference. I had gotten it all set up for her to watch it on YouTube and showed her how to navigate it on her own just in case I wasn't around to help her. She thanked me and said that she really wasn't in the mood to watch it. She was, however, in the mood to watch HGTV and the Hallmark channel. I guess we know how the general conference rates.
