According to “Doctrinal Watchdog” Joel Osteen, pastor of Lakewood Church, a Texas megachurch received 4.4 million dollars in Covid Relief Funds through the government’s Paycheck Protection Program. These funds came from SBA-backed loans that were intended to help businesses keep their workforce employed during the COVID-19 crisis. This money was given in the form of a forgivable loan (didn’t have to be paid back) as long as it was used to pay the wages, benefits & health insurance coverage for a businesses employees & their families.

JFYI, Lakewood Church has an annual budget of $90,000,000.00. Also, Joel Osteen has a net-worth believed to be between 60 to 100 million dollars while living in a 17,000 sq. ft. mansion worth $15,000,000.00.

Osteen was finally embarrassed into returning the 4.4 million dollars in pandemic loans (actually taxpayer or U.S. citizen’s money) after months of sustained public pressure and criticism.

BTW, according to “Doctrinal Watchdog” there were 60 other churches in Texas that received more than $1,000,000.00 from this government program.

Question: “Does anyone know if the Mormon Church also received covid relief funds? If so, how much & what’s your source?

Although doing this would not technically be illegal, I think we can safely posit it would be at least unethical for a church to do so which is known to have at least 100 billion dollars secreted away.

The mormon church financial model is primitive but effective:

“All your base are belong to us.”

Well, the BYU's turned down the money allocated to them. The CARES Act allocated the following amounts for the schools:

• BYU: $32,272,986.

• BYU-Idaho: $18,172,623.

• BYU-Hawaii: $2,306,881.

• LDS Business College $1,422,523.

The total of $54.17 million nearly matched the $54.16 million the CARES Act awarded to Rutgers University, the third-highest amount in the nation.
