Looking at Ballard from the Pocatello Temple dedication made we wonder if he ever got to just be a retired old man? Are their aged brethren allowed to take off more time than some working stiff like me?

General authorities get the whole month of July off and they get every Monday off. I’ve never have been able to take a whole month off. I’m sure GA’s are relatively busy but the get paid and get good benefits. All they have to do is follow orders.

As an owner of several businesses I bet I’m busier than they are and I deal with far greater risks. They don’t have to make payroll. I do.

'follow orders' note the difference between 'making important decision' and 'thinking outside the box'

There’s not much thinking outside the box in the church. You follow assignments and follow protocols set by committees. General authorities are company men.

Endless committee meetings, lots of travel to areas to deal with stake reorganizations.

I also believe that they get 3 weeks off in December, but many put on a good show and come into the office anyways.

I don't feel sorry for them because they seek this type of work.

They're living the dream!

It's the perfect job for megalomaniacs.

How closely do they consider the worth - impact of Mormonism & their role in the big picture of life & dying, of the claimed 'hereafter'?

Having been copied on Holland's emails in his early days as an apostle and known him as a seventy, I can assure you they "work" much more than 40 hours per week.

However, it would be better that he didn't "work" so hard. How about being honest. stating from the pulpit that the BoM is a 19th century work of fiction and all other things he has stated are untrue.

Then stay home with his family or devote his time to genuine charities.

In fact, why don't they all come out and apologise for the fraud, Then they could devote their time and all the resources of the church to genuine charities.

You mean, give out some of the $100,000,000,000+ (that we know about)?! <GASP>

Thanks for the reply Tom. I hope to have something of a retirement if I live long enough. Just goes to show me how unlike the hierarchy I am. In my half century of being I've realized the pain of being a not fully engaged father and a terrible example to my children.

I guess for these masters of hypocrisy, heaven, and secondly heavenly endowments from high on a mountain granite turreted temple, their reward is to work themselves to the stone. And if you are Nelson, you can steal some stone from that temple to top you off!

They love the hero worship and the extra cash. It keeps them going into old age. There are also tons of people aspiring to the red chairs and the chairs behind the red chairs at conference.

You go to a stake conference or whatever and everyone wants to meet you and they take notes about the inspired words you say.

Our relief soc pres looked like she was having an orgasm when the stake president would talk.

No, they "serve" until they die.

They are doing a good job living in the hope that Jesus will twinkle them into almost resurrected status for their service and then they can wander around with John and The Nephites.

It's a time full job, just like being Queen of England is a full time job. In Utah we have the King, 12 dukes and a bunch of Barons and Earls with a few Baronesses etc.

Doing double duty as court jester is Jeff Holland - old jiggly jowels. I can see him now entertaining the King and Dukes by jiggling his jowels.
