And LDS Chapel was recently sold in my small town.
To make way for 26 vacation condominiums.
(Live in small coastal town)

The church has put a condition in the buyers contract
that they are to be given back the Baptismal font .

Is this normal practice for LDS and why?

Is that condition enforceable? Hot tub anyone?

if the parties agreed to it, with no unreasonable provisions, it should be enforceable.

If the church uninstalled it, the church would be footing the bill.

Now they just have to get the Elders Quorum to go pick it up and move it . . .

The church was built in 1974. It will be completely demoed . The contract said it was the churches responsibility and all cost incurred moving it.

But you know they will get plenty of free help from the good
brethren . ( although no Brethren live there any more ).

All the fonts I ever saw — except the one in the ones in temples, were built like a small swimming pool and part of the foundation. So this one must be an exception, some type of above ground tub.

Yeah, I'm really curious about this, my stake centers baptismal font looked like this, just a concrete tub with tiles.

It's interesting to see the power cord dangling in the water. I guess we know what happens if the baptiser messes up the prayer.

is it April's Fools day?

I'd seriously like to know;

my first chapel was built or adapted for church use that appeared just like other residences, it was across the street from Denfield H.S. in Duluth, MN.

the font was in the basement, I guess it could be converted to a tub or shower afterward.

ChurchCo 'member built' a new chapel up by the Duluth airport, I remember pounding a few nails before Mom, brother & I moved back to Seattle / Richmond Beach.

are there any RfM ers from the Duluth area?

If you live in the northwest US a used baptismal font could be good spot for Bigfoot to take a bath. Elsewhere it might serve as a place for any Snipes to swim that you catch during the hunt.

Bigfoot told me 'Thanks for the thought, Shinehah, but I'm holding out for a jacuzzi!!'

would a Hot Tub be a good compromise?

Whatever will get Bigfoot in the water. I've always heard that Bigfoot(Cain) is a real stinker.

Paint it blue.
Then place a statue of JS in it, and voila! you have an LDS yard shrine! (Don't forget twinkling minilights!)

I would take this in a second and start baptizing people for my church. The church of St. Pertendtious.

Yeah- like others have said, the fonts are full-immersion pools, not above-ground basins like in Catholic or other churches. They cannot be removed because they are structural components. Imagine if you had a built-in swimming pool in your basement. It cannot be "removed". And the church in no way consider these pools to be anything special. They are built to do a job, and that is all. This myth is busted.

Agreed. If the church wants to buy a hole in the ground, I'm sure I can find one to sell.

Baptismal font is what mormons use in their Word documents.

Plant it, make it into a boat, or use it as a bomb shelter: BOMB = Book Of Mormon BS! No shelter there-

Normal? The LDSc? Normal? Um...

Probably. You see, TMC is SO CHEAP...
(How Cheap?)

It is So Cheap it wants the new owners to do the work. What's new? ... "Give it back to them"? They should just go dig the dang thing up themselves. The bishop's children can have their own swimming pool, at no charge, and TCSS could feel good about itself (knowing it went to a "good cause" and not to tainted and unclean people, and the fact that they did it themselves, NOT the members, but PAID PROFESSIONALS [NOT Mormons!]).

Why can't the thing just be destroyed/ demolished/ decommissioned with the rest of the building/$HIt-lot?

Isn't that why they dug the big hole under the Provo City Center Temple (after it caught fire)? Wheren't they looking for an old baptismal font burried under there? Talk about idolatry. TSCC never revealed how much that cost the TP (tithe payers). Hmmmm --Interesting.

I'm curious as to how you know that detail

is it from a real estate listing?

They could use a dozen kiddie pools in the cultural hall. The entire temple experience has been cheapened over the years.

Maybe they'll finally decide that there's an ideal length of "slip 'n slide" that's as effective as baptism-by-the-most-indivisible-unit-of-time immersion.
