I just looked up ETB to double check the date he became Profit (pun intended), and literally can't believe one of the pictures of him in a 50 gallon cowboy hat. It's like Alice in Wonderland's Mad Hatter.

Is this really how the BMOCs were struttin' their stuff at YBU?

Is he overcompensating?

I just can't stop laughing...

I like how he could collect rain water with that hat.

Actually, that kind of was what cowboy hats were like in the 1920s, though the crease seems a little extreme

Google "tom mix images" for comparables.

Or as I have heard Cockneys say: "If you can't fight get a big hat.'

I think it's likely that.

Perhaps even in those long ago days of yesteryear Ezra was wanting to round-up some commies.

This type of hat was very common in the southwest in the 1920's
My father and several of my uncles had similar hats.
it seems they faded out during the second world war and were pretty much gone by the Korean police action

Or water for your horse. It think the rocks were in his head. No offense intended to rocks everywhere.

That's the kind of hat Will Rogers would have made jokes about. And he wore a pretty big hat himself.

All he needs is a clown nose and clown shoes to go with the hat!

I think his was refered to (by Mormons) as his ten gal, one hat! Don't quote me on that.

He had been U.S. Secretary of Agriculture in the Eisenhower administration. Remember well my Uncles cussing his decisions and lack of knowledge as it had an effect on their cattle and farming operations.

He looks like Tom Mix, or possibly like Buster Keaton in "Go West."

Cowboy hats were large in general, and evolved from or were influenced by sombreros, and I believe the "gallon" here is derived from Spanish for the embroidered bands on cowboy hats.

I think we incorrectly identify these ridiculously large variants as "ten gallon" when in fact they are much larger than the norm.

If you pop the dimple out of ETB's hat, it would be even taller and pointier.

I gotta confess that I do like ETB's jacket, but regarding the hats, whether it's Tom Mix or ETB, these dudes were peacocking.

Was ETB a cowboy ? All of his cow shit was inside of his boots.

The hat had no crease until the meteorite came crashing down.
