My father in law gave me 4 cows when I took his daughter off his hands. She has always joked she is a minus 4 cow wife. Grew our herd on the farm from them.
If there wasn't value in the objectification of women it would never have lasted this long. The culture of cows makes my wife and I worthy of a few heads instead of finding worth in our hearts.
I never thought Johnny Lingo was a good story to teach self-worth. The sad thing is that the culture of the church is accurately depicted in the story: each person believing he/she is better than the other.
It would be shown over and over in the waiting rooms of the temple during Saturday youth temple trips. People kept their laughing to a minimum because this was the house of the lord and the youth chaperones set the tone.
On the drive back some of the mean girls would pick on (bully) a quiet girl who might be less attractive for whatever reason- too short or tall, acne problem, mentally slow, teeth problems. My point is they would call her Mahana to make her cry. All done in front of adults. Sometimes, the victim would fight back and the leaders would act like it's no big deal.
-Ah don't get mad. Look at how beautiful Mahana is at the very end. It's a compliment to be called Mahana.
