Abraham (AKA Ibrahim) Is an essential figure and important prophet for three of the world’s major religions (Judaism, Christianity, and Islam). 3.8 billion people, roughly half of the earth’s population, are followers of Abrahamic religions.

It seems to me that if someone were to somehow come across previously unknown writings of Abraham, that would be incredibly important-arguably the greatest religious discovery of the past 1,000 years. Any church that had possession of such writings would certainly be proclaiming them to the world, and making them the centerpiece of their proselyting efforts.

The BoA, besides being provably bogus now that the papyri have been found, is too racist, even for Mormons, and that’s saying something.

Meanwhile, the BoM is also becoming too racist for the church formerly known as Mormon. The message “God likes whites better” is just not selling well these days. Well, it is selling well with some people, but not the kind you want associated with your corporate brand.

So the corporate board decides to rebrand as the “We’ve got temples and you don’t, nyah nyah” church.

Then along comes Under the Banner of Heaven.

Boy, Satan is really working overtime to try and stop the spread of the One True Church upon the face of the earth.

Either that, or it is hard to keep a con game going that is built on a foundation of bull****.

EB, are you referring to Abraham or to Elohim?

Elohim actually had his son killed, but Abraham was more than willing to kill his son. He had the knife ready to slice when god said” just kidding.”

Yes.

I'm just pointing out that the notion of child murder runs very deep in Judaism and Christianity and Mormonism, less so in Islam because that faith views the OT more metaphorically and doesn't focus on either "sacrifice."

It strikes me that the story of Laban, a murder justified by reference to God's will, sets Mormonism squarely in the vein of Judeo-Christian violence. It would have resonated with the people in revivalist New England.

From my standpoint both but I was raised by a man who was okay with having lots of kids he could ignore. I think my father might have wanted to murder me. He did leave me in Nephi once for hours and hours saying I couldn't return home. To his credit he did come back and get me. I wasnt an animal after all. He didn't go back for the many dogs and cats he abandoned.

Most are afraid to question the "sacrifice" story at all. Afraid they will come to the conclusing Abraham screwed up in being willing to do it.

Before - he talked with God.
After, never again, only Angels.

He may have been favored but he failed the test.

--ignoring for the moment that there is no non-biblical evidence of Abraham's existence at all.
