every july 1st ~


canadians emerge from they igloos ~


after a meal of round bacon ~


and maple syrup ~


they dust off they flannel shirts ~


and blink and squint at the unfamiliar sun ~


they pray to they atheistic gods ~


and queen elizabeth ~


for her health ~


and for the metric system ~


and for their funny accents ~


and for queen elizabeth allowing canadia to be a semi-independent nation ~


then they open they wallets ~


to see if they have enough monopoly® money ~


to buy a canadian bottle of beer ~


and a pack of imported smokes ~


if they have enough monopoly® money ~


they head to the bar to celebrate canadian day ~


pretty much like every other day ~


if they do not have enough monopoly® money ~


they go back into they igloos to hibernate ~


with they eskimo girlfriends ~


happy canadian day y'all ~

When I lived in Toronto in another life and time Canadians I knew often fought back against the stereotypes by telling me you could always tell the American visitors by the skis they brought with them in July and August.

As I recall, they emerge from their igloos because the lease was up and had to move to another igloo. Ever try to rent a moving truck on Canada Day in Quebec? Missionaries get in the hours of service that day for sure. Though, is Quebec really part of Canada?
