Latter-day Saints’ efforts in ensuring all feel welcome within the fold, apostle D. Todd Christofferson urged listeners.

“We cannot permit any racism, tribal prejudice, or other divisions to exist in the latter-day church of Christ,” he said. “We should be diligent in rooting prejudice and discrimination out of the church, out of our homes, and, most of all, out of our hearts.”

What about all the racism and white supremacy in foundational MORmON scriptures? Any talk of eliminating racism w/in the abusive Doomsday CULT is hypocritical as long as the CULT insists God cursed two entire races of humans with dark skin as a result of the sins of their fathers in order to make them unattractive to his blessed (white) children.

"Other divisions" and prejudices?

Like rich vs. poor mormons…

English speakers vs. non-English…

BIC vs. convert…

Straight vs. gay…

Republican vs. Democrat…

…and anything else to establish a pecking order and make one group feel superior to another?

Mormonism is by its very nature a tribe. The church has worked diligently for almost 200 years to make it so. Members have been programmed to think in tribal terms, and it's far too late to root it out.

Look all around you, Todd. Look at your fellow apostles. Look at the leader of your church. Look at that sea of white sitting in front of you. Really?

LOL. Seriously, I can't believe that fact didn't smack them in the face when they tried to preach that. Yeah, no divisions there.

They have no shame or sense of irony.

Indeed, despite the hugeness of their elderly ears, they simply cannot tune ANYTHING in.

So why do they call their school "Brigham Young" University?

We aren’t racist. The Book of Mormon is the most true book ever published. Read it! Ah golly gee. I’ve been reading this and it says dark skin is a curse.

Oh well. We go to Africa and dangle our money in front of the people over there. When a few suckers join we can claim the church is becoming more diverse.

Let’s just say the church is less racist. One of my best friends married a LDS girl from Jamaica he met on his mission there. They are sealed in the temple. She’s as black as to can get and he’s white as white. In Brigham Young’s day he would have been reprimanded for getting romantic with an offspring of dirty ol Cain and soiling his divine birthright. But it goes both ways. We went to Jamaica with them and she knew all the cool local spots to go to. Anyways we are at a local swimming hole and she’s catching shit she’s with a white guy. We had to leave to avoid problems.

Racism is everywhere. In fact the US is far less racist than many other parts of the world. It ain’t going away. It’s too useful as a political tool. People don’t want it to go away.

Jeeze, it's about time LDS Inc. addressed racism - not like they'll actually do anything about it. Heck, back in 1978 when black males were FINALLY permitted to have the priesthood, racism still wasn't addressed. The lifting of the priesthood ban for black males was just presented as new revelation. No apologies. No talks at general conference addressing racism that I recall (I haven't tuned in for a long time), until today's general conference - more than 50 years after the 1978 "revelation." LDS Inc. had to wait for others (BLM movement, etc.) to lead the way before they finally said something.

It wasn't BLM that motivated this. It was the Associated Press. The church is motivated by reputational concerns, not moral imperatives.

And what exactly has the church done? So far only words.

Always words.

Yes, that's why I wrote, "the BLM movement, etc." Of course BLM wasn't the only motivation, but it did get a lot of attention/press and got a lot of people talking.

My point is that LDS Inc. always trails behind and won't make a move until they're pressured to. They were pressured into lifting the priesthood ban in 1978 but didn't really address racism. They missed an opportunity.

I agree, "always words."

We are in violent agreement.

My only difference in nuance was that BLM has been around for years and did not elicit any changes in LDS behavior. A couple of articles by the AP, by contrast, brought almost instantaneously several speeches condemning racism and the elevation of a black woman and an Asian woman to the pulpit in general conference.

Not all forms of outside pressure influence the church: the only thing that matters to the Q15 is direct criticism of them.

Because it wasn’t just a ‘Priesthood Ban’ it was a complete ban an ANY blacks (people of African descent) from entering the temple and partaking in worship as equals.
It wasn’t ever about the ‘priesthood’ since women didn’t get the priesthood and they were admitted into temples all along. It is clearly is inexcusable racism, based solely upon an entire race’s skin color.

They couldn’t excuse that then and they can’t excuse it now.

They talk about the temple ban in their white paper: ‘Race and the Priesthood’ https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/study/manual/gospel-topics-essays/race-and-the-priesthood?lang=eng
But their excuse is that even prophets are men and products of their day and age, and hey EVERY church was racist back then, so we are no worse than anybody else!

The main problem with that excuse is those other churches made no claim about being led by prophets who couldn’t lead their followers astray or God would sooner kill them. No other church put those racist 19th C myths in writing and called it the Word of God. And no other church refused to apologize or back down from their racist 19th C attitudes. No other church continues to claim their racist foundational scriptures is the most perfect book on planet Earth. No other church maintains the worlds largest standing army of cult recruiters to go sell the most perfectly racist book on planet Earth, long after those 19th C racist myths have been debunked by 21st C genetic evidence.

It’s long past time to call bullshit on these lying racist MORmONs.
