Ghawd commanded a temple to be built in Russia.  This was in April of 2018.

Ghawd commanded a temple to be built in Shanghai, China.  This was in April of 2020.  Additionally, ghawd said that the Shanghai temple would open quickly enough so that the shuttering for repairs of the Hong Kong temple wouldn't be a burden to Chinese members wanting to joys and comforts of temple attendance.

I don't know that any Russian officials have ever commented publically about the 2018 announcement.  The church website, mormon.org, says what it said in April of 2018, no location picked, no design, no rendering...no news.

An arm of the Chinese government did say, following the 2020 announcement, "no tickee, no laundry", or something to that effect...  Okay, it was closer to "what the F are you guys smoking?!"

They used to comment on the status of a yet-to-be-opened temple, but now they just listed the date it was announced, and nothing else, until it's under construction.

The Smithfield temple is currently listed as no site selected, but it had a ground-breaking ceremony on June 18, 2022.  So now that I've pointed out this omission, someone from the 'church punishment' committee will hopefully let the webmaster know...



In any event, what's the penalty for obstructing The Way of The Lord?  And upon whom will the punishment fall?

Mormon Stories who seem to have a lot of contacts inside the church's administrative structure and with family members of church leaders has said President Nelson's crazy temple building drive is frustrating the people who actually have to do the actual work of making a temple actually happen in reality.

With COVID and now the geopolitical and economic situation building stuff is harder than ever. The US no longer has the same political or economic relations it had with certain countries. The dollar doesn't buy what it used to. Government regulations and uncertainty has made doing business or producing certain materials difficult if not impossible. Building anything right now is very frustrating.

So old men can stand in the Conference Center and say be not of the world and announce the plans to contracts many temples. But you need the world to get contractors, equipment, supplies and legal approval to build temples. Temples are very worldly. They are made of what came from the earth and built by men. They are financed by money. Not much spiritual about them except for the fantasies they help satisfy.

As far as the people at church headquarters who have to get these things actually built for real, they need a stiff drink and they are probably hoping the old man drops soon and someone more sane replaces him.

The real effective dollar is as strong as it's been in decades and will within days be at record levels. If that were the sole obstacle, the church should be building abroad at full speed right now.

I've heard them talk about that. What they say makes a lot of sense.

To quote my favorite movie, "Dis sorta ting USED to be civilized." The temple department had all the relevant data and numbers, q15 would say, "we're thinking of building some temples, whadduya got?", and the temple dept would lay out recommendations that were mostly followed, and things proceeded in a pretty organized manner.

Nowadays it seems more like Rus gets on "Sim City: World Edition" and starts randomly plopping down useless buildings while his secretary takes notes. So much for "a house of order."

Dubai could be problematic as well.

The White Plains (NY) Temple comes to mind here. It was announced in 1995 and erased from the list in 2006. The church puts a self-serving spin on it here. "The spirit of compromise" indeed.

This has probably been mentioned but if Russia controls Kyiv then there will be a Russian temple. And if China invades Taiwan...

So why didn't the church build some kind of "token" temple in the former USSR?

Let's face it the previously proven church policy/formula plan for what it takes to support a temple (so amny stakes/wards/ph holders/tithing receipts) have been tossed into the wind. Now the church will build any temple anywhere, no matter how ridiculous the location and Mormon pop is.

Do you think he wants his Russian temple because he foolishly prophesized tremendous growth in a country that he wanted nothing to do with Mormonism.
