"Merrill Darrell Fackrell, 41, allegedly boarded a JetBlue flight Monday at JFK Airport in New York en route to Salt Lake City. During the flight, Fackrell was in the window seat next to a woman, when he allegedly placed his hand in front of her screen and told her to pause her movie, according to a release from the U.S. Attorney's Office, District of Utah. The woman then realized Fackrell was holding what appeared to her as a knife, "inches from her skin at her throat/neck area," the release said.

The woman's husband then went to the front of the plane to get assistance from a flight attendant. The woman lunged for the aisle to escape and Fackrell reached and tried to stop her by grabbing her shoulder, according to the release.

The object was secured and later identified as a wood-handled straight edge razor with a one-to-two-inch blade."

I’ve seen several references to the perp having consumed several alcoholic beverages. IOW he might be a nice guy who just happens to be a bad drunk.

I’m not buying it. Presumably he was sober somewhere along the line when he decided to smuggle a razor blade onto the aircraft. This is not just some clown who had two overpriced drinks too many while waiting for a flight.

I presume he will have several years in a federal facility in which to reassess his behavior.

In a twisted way, this reminded me of the scene in "When Harry Met Sally" where Sally fakes an orgasm in a restaurant and Billy Crystal's real-life mom, seated at another table, but not as Billy Crystal's mom, says, "I'll have what she's having..."

Couldn't passengers do that job? Kind of like people who sit in exit rows. They get a little extra instruction at the beginning of the flight. The stewardess could teach some commando moves.
