(Forgive me, Father, for I have sinned...  Look, it nearly killed me leaving the ' out of "what's" in the title...  But I ran out of room!!  I know that this isn't really a good excuse, truly, I do!  I just needed to get this off my chest via the confessional that is RfM, lest it maketh taking today's first nap too challenging...)

((As penance, I shall say a Hail Mary [how come we don't say 'Hale, Mary,' as in wishing her good health?], an Our Father, a Lord's Prayer, and a Go, Brock Purdy!, and then endeavor to sin no more.  Please, pray for me in the hour and a half of my need...    Thank you.))

It didn't give humidity!  And there was no mention of mosquitos, etc.

I've never seen a firefly in person; could I see one there if I signed up? I'm still in my 70teens...

"Hail Mary?" "Hale, Mary?"

I always thought it was "Hell, Mary." That's how I start most of my requests.

"Hell, Lot, I've told you to take the trash out for the last time!"

"Hell, Judic, can't you make the old man take his pills?"

"Hell, Mary, full of grace. . ."

It’s the middle of the Mississippi Valley in the middle of August. It will be generally hot and humid, with the possibility of a good Wrath-of-God level thunderstorm.

When I was younger, I went with family from Salt Lake to St. Louis in August. When I got out of the car I felt like I had entered a swimming pool.

And the cockroaches- be prepared for cockroaches. Big, black ones.

Regarding "Cucarachas," were they part of EVERY missionary's experience?

Meaning, are there cockroaches in Finland?

I remember waves of stampeding cucarachas in a couple of cities and wondering if they carried away babies and small animals...

If you put harnesses on them, you can ride a pair like they were roller skates. Fun times.

The ones in Southeast Asia and Hong Kong are a good three inches long and sport powerful wings. With a harness, you could fly.

One in Brazil landed on my face while I was sleeping. That’s when I discovered at least some of them can fly. Fortunately it only happened once. That I know of.

I’ve had that experience dozens of times. They are so big that they hit you with a thud; you feel the wind from the wings, a palpable thud, and some crawling as you instantaneously awake, recoil, scream, and feel the winged wind of the escaping insect again and are left wondering in terror what diseases you’ve just been exposed to.

But the terror leaves you and decades later you have no more nightmares.

Really.

those of us who've lived in the mid-west have experienced Hot & Muggy weather/climate; the only good or interesting things not available in the west I remember were fireflies

Hot (80s-90s, perhaps near 100); humid (80% humidity isn't unreal), and mosquitoes near the River, that's all accurate.

Average daily high = 83 degrees, 62 for the overnight low. That's "average." Overnight low could be 80 degrees and incredibly sticky/humid, it's hard to say.

Records: high = 96, low= 44.

Lightening bugs are cute and harmless.

Cockroaches only in apartment buildings, commercial restaurants, professional kitchens, etc. Not in any homes I've lived.

Stay hydrated. Drink water.

I heard of roaches in northern MN. They come in on shipping pallets, and as long as the inside of the building stays above freezing, the roaches can survive. Just barely. I never saw one myself.

Hell.
Source: I once lived there. It's like being trapped in a very hot swampy sauna with hoards of mosquitoes. Poison ivy everywhere.

All right!!!

That's what I was looking for!

And the church wants its young single ADULTS (not teens!) to mingle (after paying the minimum $215, along with whatever it costs to get there) as they learn ... whatever it is they're there to learn.

I hope at least one couple names their surprise baby, "Nauvoo"!

Nauvoo Russell Smith, that's the entry on which to bet the farm!

You just want somebody else to have your middle name.

They make wine in Nauvoo. The place isn’t all bad. The French came in after the Mormons got ran out. Some built wine cellars from the stone that was from the temple ruins.
