What kept me in as long as I stayed was the idea that only the BOM and D&C where doctrine. Everything else was just 12 dudes speaking their dusty opinions. Still, those old men where too trite for me to regard as leaders, hence the exit.

a practical definition of 'doctrine' is What is Taught, that's nearly lost in the uber- legalistic world we have today

In the Mormon church it's beliefs that are true one minute and "I don't know that we teach that" the next.

Yesterday’s doctrine is today’s blasphemy.
Today’s doctrine is tomorrow’s blasphemy.

Why do you ask, and how do you plan to get right with The Lard?

Mormon doctrine of at least the last 40 years is best described as nailing jello to a wall.

For several decades McConkie's book Mormon Doctrine held sway.
But is was gradually and at times aggressively downplayed.

Somewhere along the line the "a living prophet overrules a dead prophet" took over.

There was a time I considered myself well versed in doctrine and scripture but not anymore.

I usually preface any discussion on doctrine with the phrase "in the (insert time frame here) I was taught this" or such and such was taught in such and such timeframe.

I now often say "in mormon mythology" since no one can say for sure what mormon doctrine is beyond the prophet is not to be challenged and pay tithing even if your children will be homeless, sick and hungry. Oh and leadership has the god given right to ask preteens and teens about their sex lives.

Right now it's Nelson's Follow Jesus mantra.

Tomorrow it will be something else.

I was a Mormon for years. Now you can't even say that word unless you put 'Book of' in front of it.

Is that doctrine?

I know right? Now it's no longer what's in canonized scriptures or discourses of the living prophets/apostles....no it's what's ever in the White handbook of Instructions, written by the lawyers and survey/polling results.

This the everlasting rites, exacting or words actions was drilled into my head. The sacrament prayer had to be exact, The hand had to be at the square at baptism. The anointing/prayers over the sick had to have exact steps; but we were proud that we had so few "prayers/rites" that couldn't be altered, edited, etc... that only a few were to be exact; until the temple rites, ceremonies those couldn't be deleted, altered or changed. Or yes, they can even if exactness was decreed by Jesus through the prophets...those could be changed in a myriad of ways except that temple attendance was a commandment and only for full tithe payers.

So really, the only laws, commandments, rites are based on money. Whether consecration, united order, tithing, Missionary funding, all of those were to be done. So they literally are the Church of Smaug (THE HOBBIT: Smaug, "He lives alone in the Lonely Mountain, his only purpose to guard the treasure he stole from the dwarves during the reign of Thorin's grandfather. Smaug rarely leaves his lair, and he sleeps on top of the accumulated ornaments, utensils, and weapons that constitute the treasure. He represents the wrongful impulse to hoard, to accumulate beyond what one can use and to refuse to share with others.")

TSCC is committing what the bible says got Sodom & Gomorrah obliterated – pure unadulterated greed.

Ezekiel 16:49-50

49 Behold, this was the iniquity of thy sister Sodom, pride, fulness of bread, and abundance of idleness was in her and in her daughters, neither did she strengthen the hand of the poor and needy.

50 And they were haughty, and committed abomination before me: therefore I took them away as I saw good.

The mormon church may as well be called New Sodom.
