With all the news about that,we think they would be disgusted and confused Gods propehts and apostles allowed the church to commit such an illegal act of placing billions in shell companies. However their faith seems undisturbed.What are the reasons for this?

Are current active Mormons totally unaware of the issue?i know people can be unaware that blacks were banned from the priesthood until 1978,and still become a devoted convert.They can think maybe the SEc and its officials are very bigoted and biased people who are persecuting the the lords church.Or maybe most devoted church members think it was just a clerical error and oversight that the $32 billion in equity investments were mistakenly not declared to the SEC,and was quickly corrected when the error was discovered.

What is the most prevailing scenario for those forever devoted to accepting Russel Nelson as a prophet?Can any of you in contact with tbm followers with unwavering faith tell me the reactions of Mormons?

The "fine" is old news. If they weren't upset over the 100 billion to begin with, they won't be upset over being persecuted by the feds.

The church has put out a new statement about a billion dollars donated touting how good they are. Mainly to wash over the "ya we hid the money" thing.

Most sheeple just bray and then go back to grazing.

Church newsroom basically said the fine was for a technical bookkeeping error. That's all TBM's care to know.

No concern about how creating thirteen shell companies is a bookkeeping error.

How many people joined the church because of the SEC investigation? IMHO, nobody.

How many people thought more highly of the LDS Church because of the investigation? Nobody.

How many Mormons are going to feel more justified to be creative at their next Tithing Declaration meeting? I don’t know, but surely the answer isn’t ‘nobody’.

I don't think it bothers them even though it should.

As most people here at RfM know, the church conditions members to open their wallets for anything and everything church related.

My missionary jackass of a companion at the Provo MTC had to see an ear specialist every week. The church provided a driver and on the first day we found out that it was 5 bucks for the round trip. Why did I have to go? I wasn't seeing the doctor.

I complained to people in authority and I was told that I was being petty.

Later I was always scheduled to transfer the "wrong direction" to my next assigned city/town. Instead of riding in the church owned "transfer" van with trailer for bicycles and luggage, I had to ride on the local bus. It cost an extra 50 to ship your "boxed" bicycle in the luggage compartment under the bus. We were supposed to mail in our transfer costs to the mission office, but I was always told that it would be settled at the end of my mission- yeah right!

About midway thru my stateside mission, we were informed that the missionary department allocated each full time missionary an increase of 25 buckaroos per month, except!!!

The mission president decided that the allotment would be kept for 6 months to offset all the "free" missionary transfers that the mission had incurred using the transfer van.

-Messy a still pissed off ex-Mo because the church never reimbursed squat when doing the church's business. And here they sit on a profane pile of cash.

We knew about that all along and we are ok with the church saving money for the post apocalyptic world, which is immanent.

I asked my oldest Son if he had heard about this and he said "no". I asked if he knew how much money the church had squirreled away. Again, no. Then he stopped me and said that the church authorities know what they were doing and he wasn't worried about it.

He was oblivious about any of this. Said it didn't concern him and he wasn't interested in hearing more.

The brainwashing is complete. That’s why the Mormon Church can get away with it.

He didn’t sound like someone completely brainwashed. He sounded like someone deeply threatened. “La-la-la I can’t hear you” is not a message of trust and confidence in the Church.

It's no coincidence that since the news of the SEC fine a few weeks ago, the church has announced donated water shares and spending $1 billion on service. If TBMs knew or cared about the church's fine and shell companies, any worry has most likely been replaced with good thoughts. TBMs are usually quick to forgive and forget.

I haven't received any word that the Brethren consider this story important for us to discuss. Thus I won't be giving it a second thought at all.

The pesky anti-Mormons struggle to understand why we think like this. It's really simple and I'll explain for myself what happened. As a young child I gained a powerful testimony of the cheerios in Nursery class. Then I was carefully taught through the Correlation program to associate cheerios and more advanced teachings over time with goodness/truthfulness. When I was a super mature age of 8 I then made a very important lifelong legal commitment that the focus of my life would be to be baptized and then obedient to the Church. If it wasn't for this beloved Correlation program then I might have gone on some other path than this one I was being groomed for. At the time I was so super excited and happy to get baptized & all those reinforcing lessons had gotten me on that path. I also learned of this super bad boogieman called Satan who will do anything to undermine the true Church and that I must be on constant guard to not let Satan influence me. Over time this beloved Correlation program was able to wash my brain by immersion to automatically think on everything in a manner that is in total synchronization with the will of the Brethren. I also got the Gift of the Holy Ghost and have learned to wholly ghost any ideas that counter the will of the Brethren.

Thus if someone presents some idea that may not be 100% enthusiastically supporting the Brethren then I immediately expel such an idea from my brain. Otherwise it might be coming from Satan himself. This might be hard for some of you to understand if your brains haven't been thoroughly washed by immersion through the Correlation program.

Is this SEC fine story something that enthusiastically supports the Brethren? If not then of course I'll immediately stop thinking about it & I'll wholly ghost it with the Holy Ghost gift I've been taught that I have. And even if it was super enthusiastic then how in the world would I ever have time to follow up on the story? Between raising a huge litter of kids, fulfilling lots of callings, having to spend lots of time being a member-missionary out yelling at my neighbors to repent and become obedient followers of the wondrous true gospel we got passed down to us through Brigham Young, and cleaning lots of chapel toilets so Heavenly Father can save some money - I just don't have time to follow up on stories like this. I guess I could make time in the Celestial kingdom to do that. In the meantime I'm slaving away enduring to the end as a good obedient sheep who exactly does whatever the Brethren and our local overlords decide they want to burden us with.

What fine? Really.... I actually just did a quick read. That issue came out a year or two ago? So a compay, I mean church hides up to $100 Billion! In shell companies, in the Caymans of course. And it is fined $1 million dollars? That's fair!

Not sure what you are reading. The fine was $5 million, and it was a little over a month ago. I haven’t heard of any connection to the Cayman Islands. The shell companies were spread around the US.

The fine was split, $1 million to the church, $4 million to Ensign Peak Advisors, a subsidiary corp of the church.

ETA: follow-up. The SEC filing says the violation occurred between 1997 and 2019. I suppose that means the feds were onto them in 2020, and it took three years to negotiate a settlement. That sounds about right.

I found zero reference to the Cayman Islands. Why on earth would they send their money there? It is already tax-free. There is no point in trying to hide it to avoid taxes.

LDS Inc just hated to have to do a public disclosure of their holdings. They hate hate hate having to be transparent about anything.

The church plans to tap into it's finest members for a temple building donation drive. They can easily raise another 5 mil for building new temples.

One tenth of one percent of $32 billion in assets is $32 million. The stock market bounces up or down one tenth of one percent or more practically every day.

$5 million is lunch money to Ensign Peak. They care more about the embarrassment more than the actual money.

The lds church knows no shame. The lds church has the money to employ people and does not need free labor. For example my aunt has 7 children she is about 70 years old my aunt and unlce have already served a senior couple mission. Right now they are helping taking care of their grandchildren. If they serve yet another mission their grandchildren will miss them for yet another 18 months. Precious time away from friends and family.

Faithful Mormons I think will do what is ask of them.

In a nutshell - and just like the "essays", or the 'church' saying CAFFEINE was always okay and was NEVER against the word of weirdom, in 2012/2013, or anything else - members generally take notice, are misinformed/ mislead/ snowed, and/ or don't care, or think they heard/ read it wrong. Generally they wouldn't believe it unless the profit said in conference that they tried to cheat (as they always do) and got caught, and are sorry.

IOW they are in the wrong always thinking others are in the wrong.
