One of the most well-known and beloved old Mormon hymns that comforted the Saints as they trekked to Zion is "Come, come Ye Saints," where each verse ends with the phrase "All is well, all is well!"

But the Book of Mormon specifically condemns anyone saying that all is well in Zion: 2 Nephi 28:21,25 - "Woe be unto him that crieth: All is well!"

It's amazing when you see such glaring contradictions and you wonder how they get through the screening you'd figure they'd have been subjected to.

Subsequent generations are in a bind because they can't just edit out errors from a "perfect" publication as it's a bit dicey to have to explain why you would need to do so. If you do it and say nothing that looks highly questionable. Can't really win either way.

Interpretation is one thing. Copy-editing quite another.

an edit coming for the hymn. It will be unannounced and simply slipped into new versions of the hymnal. Like they did when they switched "You who unto Jesus" to "You who unto the Savior" in "How Firm of Foundation". The new version will quip, "All is Swell, all is swell." Totally uncondemned by Mormon scripture.

To me not a major contradiction. One is designed to encourage after hardships and trials while on a perilous journey. The other aimed at spiritual smugness and satisfaction. JMV
