The church, at the request of local stake presidents, sent 40,000 pounds if food to east texas to donate to the local food bank.

They also bragged they'd sent 4 similar shipments over the last few years.

To put it in perspective.

40,000 pounds of food equals one semi truck.

Yes, the food is helpful. But one truck per year?

Os this a publicity stunt to seay votes for the local building permit for the new temple?

What if it was 30,000 of choice Rib Eye Steaks, 5,000 pounds of premium instant mashed potatoes, and 5,000 pounds of fresh asparagus?

Is there any truth to the rumor that Walmart shoppers eat their ice cream with small spoons?

Storehouse food? Even at $5/lb, 40000 lbs of food is $200k. Not even one millionth of the church's total wealth. All of that wealth was derived from tithes and offerings. It was meant to be spent on humanitarian needs. That's why the church doesn't have a bloated bureaucracy, so it can spend hundreds of millions of dollars per year on actual charity. Not hundreds of thousands of dollars like what it really spends.

The huge disconnect between its charity spending and income shows that the church is either a scam or an insular cult that would just as well watch the world burn.

They very often have members to buy and deliver food supplies to a certain location, where volunteer truck companies load and carry the supplies for free. (One of the organizations the church deals with is Catholic Relief Services.) Then they Talley up the cost of the donations, how much it would otherwise cost to pack and ship the goods, and for volunteers to unpack and distribute the goods, before coming up with an arbitrary figure that somehow always comes out in the millions. It's BRILLIANT!
