I don't believe there is any such thing as perfection, just study the GAs, 'eh?
Anyway, I think that perfection would be horribly BORING! who would want to be a sincere, non-intimidated friend you could share a beer or a dirty joke with ??
Becoming better is more og a challenge & hopefully with little or no ego involved. +, you can occasionally slip up and you get to say: "Hey
!! Are you expecting me to be perfect? I Don't Think So!!"
I'm all about the three points of Wabi Sabi: Nothing lasts, nothing is finished, and nothing is perfect.
Somebody who knew wrote:
"There are three types of perfectionism: self-oriented, other-oriented, and socially prescribed."
"Self-oriented perfectionism is when you impose on yourself a specific set of standards (often unrealistic) to define perfection."
"Other-oriented perfectionism means you are imposing your standards and expectations for perfection on other people."
"And socially prescribed perfectionism is when you are perceiving or believing that others expect perfection from you."
What Causes Perfectionism? Religion--a deadly combination of the other oriented and the socially prescribed. Will turn you into a Stepford Wife every time as you become perfectly unhappy.
It's all a good way to set yourself up for not being good enough. Maybe fill you flaws with gold as in kintsugi? Or fill them understanding?
Like all things in life perfectionism should be suspect. One man's flaw is another man's attractive quirk.
Yes, there are no perfect humans, nor could there be. For one, no one could agree on what that would even mean.
But could a human run a perfect 100 metre sprint?
Donovan Bailey and Usain Bolt are not the only sprinters to talk of this mythical unicorn, the perfectly run race, where every section of the race, from the bursting out of the blocks to the acceleration to the powering through to the finish line, comes off perfectly. They can imagine it, they can visualize it, they can almost taste it, but even when World Records are broken, they say -and we can see- that they didn't run every step perfectly.
But you see, it's their knowing that a perfect race exists that allows them the belief and the faith that they can break the World Record. If you run a 9.58 over 100 metres and feel that not every part of the race went perfectly, you can believe that getting a little closer to perfect means breaking the record.
Even though we aren't perfect, we somehow can imagine that perfection exists.
I was perfect and then I ruined it. I made a mistake. The sad part is the mistake was that I thought I made a mistake when I actually didn't. Still counts though.
Such a relief letting go of being perfect. Why waste forgiveness? Being perfect is so over rated. Pretending to be perfect even worse and is too much work--that is why Mormons are so stressed.
