Rappers in the Kirtland, Ohio temple

A book at church said that after saints left Kirtland temple it had farmers and chickens and ... rappers? I asked the missionaries if it meant like Eminem and Drake and they didn't know. The more I google the more I become convinced that they're talking about like the same thing? Like would 1800s saints call Kanye West a rapper by their definition? An etymology question.

So were these people who chanted bad poetry about shooting drug dealers or were they spiritualists?
