That was an appallingly bad article. I hope the daily mail is a tabloid.
For starters, I have never heard of garment markings referred to as "runes". Second, a woman claiming that her mother-in-law removed the runes and burned them and disposed of the garments because DIL touched the FIL garments is just plain weird. Either the MIL, the DIL, or the reporter was very confused about garment etiquette.
The woman who made the rune remark also has an OnlyFans account where she is a content creator. I assume that is a soft-porn site, and a large photo of her in a very low-cup blouse was in the article, hence my assumption the paper is a tabloid.
The article does mention Alyssa Grenfell. She is a credible and prolific YouTuber who does videos debunking/exposing Mormon practices. She is an RM, and clearly knows a lot about Mormonism. I have watched a number of her videos. She rarely says anything that I would quibble with as inaccurate, and she is a better than average public speaker. And her videos are carefully edited and don't waste hours of your time, unlike John Dehlin. [I just saw yet another 5 hour video by him posted on YouTube. Hell will freeze over before I spend that kind of time watching...]
I nearly wrote "protocol", but I used etiquette because something about garments feels like some sort of bizarre victorian game, with the mandatory marks, and wearing them during sex, avoiding letting the rest of the world see them, "garmie feel-ups", etc etc. Etiquette, with its prissy overtones, felt right.

The Telegraph is a joke as well. As is the Guardian. The days of Fleet Street are over.
Barely anyone buys print newspapers anymore. They also get all their "news" from the same handful of press agencies — Reuters, AP, AFP... A lot of these newspapers carry the same stories even down to certain words and phrases. The English press is mostly run by Rupert Murdoch's group (and formerly Ghislaine Maxwell's father who died under mysterious circumstances).
Has anyone ever heard anyone refer to the marks as "runes"? I guess they look vaguely like runes but I've never heard that one, have any of you?
I read the comments. A curious mixture of TBMs defending the garments, people commenting on an Only Fans model's physical appearance, and others relating the topic to other religions.
A few highlights: "Calm down Captain Yeast Infection!"
"Ugh, cults and their wack-a-doodle rules. I'm going out on a limb here and say that if you're a decent human and a good, God loving, Christian, God will not care what kind of underwear you wear."
"After the eye opening series American Primeval, I have zero respect for that cult."
"My favourite TV show theme song is: "They're creepy and they're kooky, mysterious and spooky, They're all together ooky...""
"I've worked at a couple of companies run by Mormons, very nice, honorable people. But, the more I learn about their religion, the more I'm glad I not a Mormon."
"What's soaking?"
"Her statements are blatantly false. Anyone can touch the temple garment and they are never worn during intimate situations. This is ridiculous and should have been fact checked prior to publishing."
"My magic underwear is a codpiece... it does wonders for me"
"Couldn't be bothered reading this tripe but I assume she's plugging her Onlyfans page."
