I'll keep this concise. I been out of the church for 13 years after my faith crisis and I have one kid who is 21 who is now fanatical some Christian denomination that says they are not a religion although they believe in Christ on the Bible, LOL go figure.

My TBM older brother came over to visit at my mom's house and my kid and I were there. She started in with her belief in Jesus and my brother patronized her with his Mormon teachings, which if I did that to his kids of any other belief he would order me away from his kids. At any rate, I just wanted to prove a point to my kid about "selective reasoning bias". This is where one only picks and chooses the facts that support their thesis or position on faith. I brought up a couple of things about Mormonism that stinks to high hell such as the urim and thummim vs. the rock in the hat (which is it?), also the mountain meadows massacre, the Papari/Pearl of Great Price, and the recent Ensign Peak scandal. All of which he rejected and struck hard at my credibility with insults and anger in his speech.

I found this incredible that he said, consider the source of who you are talking about. LOL, exactly moron, consider the source. At any rate, he accused me of hating on the church in which I retorted to him for my kid to hear, "that ain't correct and I am offended by the comment. I love truth rather and the LDS church is not true".

I just can't believe with so much to show for and explaining that I can pull reference straight from LDS sources, he still acted like a jackass. I gotta have a private talk with my kid to clarify some things. I would like to see his reaction if I did that to him in front of his kids?

Uggh! The saying "Never wrestle with a pig" comes to mind.

I suspect they both will dig into their selective reasoning bias even further, but maybe not. It's hard to use reason to combat beliefs held tightly with faith. I hope you gave them all something to think about. You never know. A lot of us snapped out of it, so maybe they will too.
