Posting again after a long hiatus I realized this place grew old with me.

I'm like old lace keeping the Mormon crazy in my mental been basement and talking about it from time to time.

There is a century old prophet and an aged President of the free world.

Oh, how the bones of this now creak. Every thing seems old. I'm in advanced middle age approaching 60.

The peculiar people I came from don't seem to be very peculiar anymore. Jesus could come tomorrow and it wouldn't even be that big of deal. Technology, greed, status and 15 minutes of game left before the next attention deficit takes over the trade and national ones.

Rage, rage against the dying of the further light and knowledge of the Mormon intelligence I once had...

You can leave RFM but you can't leave it alone.

Yes Elder Berry.. I am 73 and started this almost 30 years ago. A one year venture that now spans decades. I am feeling old

Somewhat related - I am paraphrasing something I read on Scientology and how it maintains its authority over its adherents. L Ron Hubbard, shortly before founding Scientology said, 'The only way you can control people is to lie to them'. The Mormon leaders essentially follow the same format. Lying works as leaders have discovered accidently or by intent. Letting go of believing lies is initially disorienting, then freedom arrives.

I was only supposed to be helping for a week! It's amazing how time flies. We certainly have seen a thing or two. Hell, they are not even mormon now.

Make the week long and the weak in Mormonism strong coming out of it!

Thank you for your efforts in reaching the 1 rejected by the 99.

Old and free versus young and deluded with lies.

Thank you thank you for your gift of 30 years of freedom.

You want to feel really old?...

Drew Barrymore is AARP-eligible. She's on the cover of this month's magazine.

OTOH, Johnny Mathis is still performing, so maybe we're not so old.

I think maybe I was just born old.

So dagny reads BYU alum magazines and your literature of choice is AARP monthlies?

I read BYU alum stuff too. AARP sits on my desk for a couple weeks until enough of the content leaks out into the air that I feel justified in just throwing it out.

Actually I only get 3 physical magazines anymore, two of which are inflicted on me for free (and the third (AARP) is very nearly free), and zero physical newspapers. Trying to avoid grinding up trees to distribute information.

Nice to see you, EB, hope you're well. As for being old, I retire on May 1st, just before my 65th birthday. I was only 47 when I first came here...

Approaching sixty with you, bud. And also getting a little creaky all of a sudden. Like Henry, Bradley and Done & Done, yours were posts I read by name.

"Rage, rage against the dying of the further light and knowledge of the Mormon intelligence I once had..."

It's weird getting to our age and finding that there's still a loooong life yet to be lived, eh? What to do? I always felt sixty to be a death-nail.

Right? We are the most interesting creatures on the planet. But I guess that is built into our nature.

I've gotten older-and wiser--with RFM. At least I smugly tell myself the latter is true now I'm 75 although I still feel out of my element in life half the time.

Some wonder why after fifty years out of the church I would come to a recovery site. I have long been recovered but the history remains and I see people here who will understand what others in my life never could. And it matters. BIC to the extreme is not something that ever goes away--just becomes something you make friends with, perhaps.

As important, I see the issues discussed here apply broadly to life in general. And for this I value the nevermo's here as well as the shared histories.

BIC is a lighter that runs out of gas but still can be flicked even after you die. A smoke is still a smoke even after you can't smoke. The smoke like a soul lingers in our fingers comforting cancer to hold until the end. We will endure until the end with a lighter in our hand.

I lost two of my dogs who were brothers four months apart. Two years ago. I have two new dogs. I've had one a year and one a week. I adopted both. One is a female part chihuahua and I'm looking for a name for her. She supposedly was named Peanut, but I can never remember her name unless I think peanut butter. My other dog is a cocker spaniel and his name is Indiana--my son asked if we could name him that. Both were rescues. I went in last Friday to rescue a terrier and he had already been adopted and they showed me Peanut and I adopted her immediately. My last two were part chihuahua part terrier. I miss them SO MUCH. It's been a rough several years for me. My son just left as I started typing this and he has ranting and raving. He talks really loud and rants and raves a lot. He has a disability hearing next week. I don't think he'll get it. I don't know what to do for him. My daughter is moving back to Cache Valley end of April and not going back to Alaska (at least this year). They want a more settled down life. She's been around a lot this winter and I tend her dog a lot.

WHILE she goes to the temple. She is forever going to the temple. It concerns me. I'm wondering what answers she is looking for. They haven't been able to have kids and she is 39. I don't know if that is it. I have to just let her tell me things. I've learned well not to bug her and his mother lives 3 blocks away (I've known them since we moved here) and she comes by and we exchange what we know about them.

Sorry so long. I came here in August 2005. Imagine! I'm 67. My life was a lot different back then.

Oh well. At least I'm out. I saw the letter about me being no longer mormon yesterday and it has been a long time since I resigned--like 2011! So glad To be out. I came to a final realization recently--why I finally ended up marrying "him." I'll tell you guys sometime.

So have I
When I came to RfM it was ’97-98-ish. IOW, near the begging. I resigned back then as well. Like some of us oldsters, I’ve seen many RfMers leave, several die

I turned 60 last year. Grateful that most of life was spent out of LDS Inc.

As other observed, the church of today is nothing like it was late 20th century.

Also read the thread about Steve Benson being in hospice post-stroke.

That really brought home how long I have been out and lurking.
