I only knew Richard Packham from his online presence, although he sent me an e-mail once offering kind words.

His analysis of language used in the Book of Mormon helped me to commit to the idea that I had more to consider than may feelings. People can debate the thousand other contradictions, anachronisms, and plagiarism in the book, but for some reason Richard Packham's thoughtful, calm, and funny analysis gave me something new to consider.

I watched his YouTube videos of the exmo conferences repeatedly. In one presentation he said something like, "Joseph Smith thought God spoke middle English, poorly." I am sure the quote is not exact, but it was a great point and it made me laugh, improved my mood, and gave me hope.

It's been nearly a year since he passed, and I wish I could have shaken his hand.

RP was extremely careful to not tell legal advice which was his choice;

IDK if he was an active lawyer at the time but I think if he wasn’t licensed & active he could have offered casual advice without incurring legal exposure If it was understood as casual / non-professional.

All said, I also enjoyed his posts.

RIP to him & all who have contributed here before dying

I agree, lieguy, I think we all miss him, his incisive mind and his broad knowledge.

RIP Richard.

Interesting. I was thinking of him this morning as well. The ex-Mormon community was mentioned in his obituary. It was important to him and he was important to us. I miss his well thought out and well written commentaries.

I didn't know he had died. True pioneer for freedom from Mormonism. Wasn't my kind of guy but it sounds like he was a kind guy.

Hopefully, if he wanted a legacy he has it in all the people he helped!

Holy Cow! I had no idea that RP passed? What happened? How old was he?

When I was discovering the truth of the church back in 2011 I reached out to him through email. Eventually, I spoke with him on the phone. He was very smart and kind. He helped me to see so many things in Section 132 of the D&C that I hadn't thought of in the past. We even talked about the movie Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed.

A couple of times he responded to my posts on this forum. I thought it was cool. RIP and thank you for all your contributions Richard.

The Onion reports that ChurchCo is hoping that RP and a few others won't be resurrected...

The Book of Mormon is more like Elizabethan English than Middle English. It's like the difference between Shakespeare and Chaucer.

The KJV is obviously the main source for the Book of Mormon.

OK, so it was written in the Style of the KJV, but that doesn't explain the untenable stories, myths, and nonsense found in the BoM
