Unfortunately this school has been in the news locally. It has been and continues using teachers who lack teaching credentials. It has been cited a few times already claiming they will fix things, but they never do. It should be shut down in my opinion. The students are not getting a quality education.

They aren't dumb, but their education has significant gaps.

One guy that I worked with was a software engineering graduate who didn't know what a molecule was. Apparently, he didn't have the same basic high school chemistry that I did.

In summary, take healthy mice a give them an abundance of space, food, no predators or disease, and everything they could need: a mouse utopia.

At first the population doubles rapidly. Then it abruptly slows, not because of lack or overpopulation, just over crowding. They don't want to spread out. They all crowd together.

Since death is rare, there are too many mice for the social roles. Some of the males are sort of outcast and lethargic. They live in gangs, sometimes attacking, sometimes being attacked. But not participating in any normal roles.

As time goes in the males stop defending territory and begin abandoning the masculine roles. The female mice begin to the take on the male roles including defending territory. As the become more aggressive, out of necessity, they also end up become more aggressive with their offspring. They sometimes harm them, move often and sometimes leave them behind, and bear less offspring.

What is interesting about the decline in births is that it isn't just less conception. It isn't just social. Even when the females conceive they have more miscarriages and fetal reabsorption. They physically can't have as many children!

Eventually everything breaks down. Some of the males abandon society all together. They spend their time alone in apartments eating and preening. Homosexual behavior also begins.

Eventually no more babies are born. It starts sooner than one might expect in the experiment. Eventually all the mice are dead. The experiment burns itself out.

Honestly, if you are a student at a fundie Christian high school, you should know better, especially if you are close to graduation. All she had to do was wait until she had her diploma/transcripts in hand, and she could have done as she pleased.

Did she go there by choice? I can't find anything on that.

The article says the online argument had more to do with her family than it did with the school. Perhaps she was naive enough to think her online activities wouldn't be monitored by a "religious" institution.

I would concur with Summer in that the wise choice would have been to wait until "after" graduation.

A simple solution.

However, I am going to guess she is 18. Remembering my time from about 17 to 21.....enough said!

I suspect the girl wanted to make a point, in which she would be fully justified.

It seems she was informed on by an unknown party.

Opinion on this is divided here on the board just as it is world-wide.

My attempt at a legal/logical POV: there's a marked difference between public & private schools & a few other examples, we should honor all choices involved...

I don't know if the graduate had other viable school alternatives; most anyone would know that private & religious orgs have different values which result in different choices & actions.

She sure wasn't looking to what the ramifications of her actions could be.

Does she still have a certificate that shows she completed the requirements for a Tenn high school education?

If she can show she has a HS education, she should be able to get into college and/or some form of advanced education/training.

I don't remember ever having to show my HS or College diploma for a job.

If she met the requirements, she should get a diploma; graduation is only a ceremony (yes?).

She got the education and they can't say she didn't or they would be lying liars--- diploma certificate or not. The only people who won't want to hire her are the people she wouldn't want to work for anyway nowadays most likely.

Not nowadays but a long time ago a very close friend who happened to be BYU Student body president was discovered to be gay just before his graduation. He had to sue for his diploma. As soon as the press got onto it and it hit the papers in SLC he got the diploma right away.

But there weren't many places that would hire. He finally got a great job but did have to take a "beard" to all the company events and parties. There are better options nowadays by a long shot for OUT people but no one gay or straight has all doors open to them. Life is a poker game and you must play the game smart.

You just stay keen when you hit the rapids.
