Now fire fighters are subject to violence same as politicians.

According to reports, a deceased man has been located and shelter instructions have been lifted.

He said Wess Roley was living out of his vehicle, had once aspired to be a firefighter and had only a handful of minor contacts with area police.

This is absolutely heartbreaking.

Where else but Idaho? Pretty much anywhere these days it seems.

but mostly pointless regarding motive & history of the weapon, etc. + citizenship of the suspect.

It might not be labeled 'blame', but will smell like it.

Access to weapons? probably not much focus on that, I'm saying.

Just a very sad story overall. It will be interesting to see how the misleadia covers it.

The crime was committed by a drifter. Not a native Idahoan so give Idaho a break. The people he killed were from Idaho.

That just changes the question to what it is about Idaho that attracts so many violent anti-government nuts.

This guy began his odyssey in Arizona, the Bundys started in Nevada and Oregon, and Kohberger came from Pennsylvania via Washington. But ultimately they all ended up in Idaho.

I'm sure you have noticed that Idaho has attracted many of the most extreme types of people from other states, especially CA. They made bank selling their homes in CA and can buy much more here. I can't find the reference now but the news once reported an interview where they said, "We're here, get used to it" or something similar.

The extreme types (for better or worse depending on your view) have taken control of much of the legislature. This is definitely NOT like traditional conservative Idaho of the 70s-90s that I knew.

I'm originally from CA. When we moved here even back in early 80s I got comments about "Californication" that let me know transplants weren't always appreciated from time to time.

We've had our share of media stories- Bo Gritz, Ruby Ridge, Fuhrman types, Daybell, etc. I'm sure I notice them more because I live here.

I heard the same thing in Colorado in the 1970s and early '80s -- "Don't Californicate Colorado." There was some resentment of Texans as well, who seemed to want to bring Texas culture with them when they moved.

It seems that when a number of Californians retire, they find it advantageous to cash out on their homes and buy elsewhere. I get that.

That kind of gentrification is why people are living in their cars, because housing is unaffordable.

Of course, urban campers don't usually kill people.

It's unaffordable in a lot of places. I was shocked to see that a decent but very ordinary house I used to live in just outside of Boston (and on the wrong side of town,) is now worth $1.2 million.

I'm grateful that big tech has largely bypassed central Maryland, because housing prices here, while high, are still within reach.
