Yup and the younger generation indicate what the church in the future will be. It will be going to the temple a lot with an extra heavy amount of Jesus rhetoric. Paying tithing and full obedience to the church leadership are the only unchanging constants.
The temple ceremonies will probably be tweaked into something else over the years. Whatever song and dance goes on doesn’t matter. By being in the secret handshake club people feel special and the church makes money on the membership dues.
Very few. Active Mormons are basically brainwashed people so they will believe whatever narrative they have been smothered with. Kolob hasn’t been part of the correlated church narrative for a long time.
I never knew about Kolob until I came here on the advice of my exmo therapist in 2005. NO CLUE! I was very devout. My "husband" just said something about Kolob the other day. I wonder if our TBM daughter knows about Kolob. I don't talk to her about mormonism so I won't ask.
I never took it to mean we came from Kolob. If I recall correctly, Kolob is the star nearest to the planet on which gods resides. And it gives light to the other stars, etc.
However, this discription always left me feeling that god is just an alien living on another planet....near Kolob, the star.

Yes. God lives near Kolob. Pre-existence spirits lived in heaven with God, which is a different place.
Mormonism never taught that people or their spirits came from Kolob.
And the church itself is totally different from 30 years ago. I think they are tring to hide the Pearl of Great Price. You hardly ever hear about it any more. And all activities are gone. Everyone hears the same lesson in every class. Only GA talks from the pulpit.
Girls are wearing bikinis for bathing suits. Active girls. Garments are different. SLC prom dresses look like Kardashian outfits. Don't they have the same modesty lessons (booklets) that we did.
So Kolob is a black hole at the center of the galaxy? I guess it makes as much sense as is necessary for a myth, and beats moon quakers, which makes no sense.
My understanding was that we were intelligences (what ever that was) that this particular god and his harem organized them into spirits. Our god was living in the neighborhood of Kolob, but not on Kolob.
How an intelligence is put into a spirit body seems to be part of the eternal marriage aspect of Mormonism.
These spirit bodies are those (except for a third that rebelled) sent to earth to get physical bodies.
When you die, your spirit leaves your body until you are reunited in the resurrection.
After the resurrection, if you are a good Mormon, you get to repeat this cycle at step one as a god or one of his wives.
This is all perfectly clear.
