Please keep in mind how much fun it can be not to pay tithing!
How much fun is it to not waste a fine Sunday inside a church building!!
Except for three weddings and a funeral, I have not worn a tie in the last 40 years!!
Probably the most fun I ever had as a mormon was unhooking Laurels' bras. I'm not proud of this, but yet I am proud of this... If there is a ghawd in heaven, I would hope that he was proud of me, too.
I'm not sure I'd post that message where EOD can see it, dagny. He was, after all, the inspiration for an excessively libidinous Loony Tunes character some decades ago.
Dawned on me a couple of days ago: I never have to wear a dress of skirt again. Maybe Mormon women wear pants to church now, I don't know. But in my day it was unthinkable. You'd get sent home to change.I do have a skirt, in case I need to wear it to a funeral. I think it's time to donate it.
We're currently planning a trip to Spain, where culinary inhibitions of Mormon origin will be the last thing on our minds. Any temples that may stand along our path will not be visited. Garments will not be worn. Crumbs of bread picked apart by teenage boys will not be consumed.
I have 3 dresses. I had two weddings 6-1/2 years ago and I had to get some dresses (one wedding had three days of celebrating). I keep the dresses just in case. I only attend funerals of relatives. I have had mormon friends pass away, but they'd understand.
The only dresses I buy are ones I get for my TBM daughter. They live here now and I watch them go off to church and the temple (they sure go to the temple a lot). What a relief that I can do what I want on Sundays and there aren't nearly as many people going places in Cache Valley, Utah, on Sundays.
I wore a tie to four funerals, I was speaking at three of them. Three others non-tied. One wedding, outdoors with shaman waving around sweetgrass smoke. no tie. And that was an ostensibly Mormon niece in Utah County. The other weddings happened when I was living out of the country, many years ago. The next generation is hitting mid teens, so I may yet get another wedding invitation, but I am doubtful. Funerals are more likely.
I did wear a suit to my 50th HS reunion, come to think of it. Requested but optional dress code.
We thought we were going to sell our house in a heartbeat, but alas, no.
The good thing was cleaning out over 30 year's worth of stuff, and among that "stuff" was my husband's 8 suits and around 30 ties. We took that, along with our daughter's wedding dress (she's the one who said "this is an effin' cult" when we were in the celestial room) to Good Will.
I have a skirt that I kept and just wore to our youngest grandchild's baptism, and now that's going to Good Will also.
Sleeping in on Sunday, not having to lie about which ward that I supposed to go to( people who didn't know me yet), so that I could always say that my ward was the one that started at 9:00, even though that year it was the 1:00 ward, just so that I wouldn't miss any games on TV. It was starting to get to me, missing most sports every other year because of 1:00 sacrament meetings.
My wife and I went to Cannon Beach, OR for a day trip. Did a 2.5 mile hike from Ecola State Park down to Crescent Beach. Not a long hike but rather steep in some areas so it was a good workout.
Stopped at Public Coast Brewing Co. after the hike. I had fish and chips (some of the very best I've ever had), my wife had fish tacos and we split a half order of onion rings. We both had a wonderful Blueberry Wheat Ale with our meal.....that's the fun nonmormony part! the ale was so good we bought a 4 pack to take home with us.....should have bought a few more even though they were a bit spendy.
We had leftovers so last night we heated up the fish, onion rings and frys and had that with a salad and fillet mignon. Delicious!
Had a project I needed to do in the backyard. Leveled the ground, put down underlayment and moved delivered rock.
Neighbors watched me as I worked around the outside of the house while they left for church and returned from church. Went to Homedepot on a Sunday afternoon with almost nobody there. Walked in got what I needed and left. No big hurry.
Stopped by Mavrick and got myself a drink of my choice. Cleaned up and did whatever I felt like during the evening hours. Wife was gone helping one of the kids and the house was quiet.
Having a day without obligations is the way to go.
